I was looking up airfare from here to Bremenish around X-masish. The cheapest thing I can find is $2852 for the three of us.:wacko:

Have you tried Travel-Overland.de as well? That is my ultimate source for cheap flight.

Prices unfortunately have really gone up in the last four years. I used to pay €450 to LA and now I pay €660 to Charlotte, which is way closer than LA. Makes a LDR hard. :(

B..b...but...i...it's Christmas

Christmas and New Years are usually a high travel season. If you can fly before or after that, you can probably save a bit of money.

I am sure that would go over great with the in-laws. :P The whole reason we are looking at tickets in the first place is that my in-laws decided that they didn't want to come here this year so will pay for half the trip to have us come over there. I was trying to figure out exactly what half the trip would be. Still, it is a lot more expensive than I had originally thought. I figured around $2k, not around $3k.

Though it was funny to do the exchange for my in-laws. $2852 is 1806€. Good thing we still have some euros in the bank. Aiyiyi.

Airfare suckkkkssss. Speculation suckkkkkksss.

Romania is a bit farther away then where we are going in Germany. ;) Still, that was the rock bottom price. My dates were Dec 18 - Jan 6. I think Northwest was the cheapest. US Airways was also pretty cheap, but I learned my lesson about them.

Oh, please share.

I flew with United and they screwed up everything they possibly could, so I am not flying with them again. Ever.

US airways is the only airline offering direct flights to Charlotte from Franklfurt and I am going to book two tickets with them in the next couple of weeks. Did you have a horrible experience with them?

We have found the last couple of years that if you fly on Christmas Day the rates go down significantly. I know it messes with the holiday, but our schedules thankfully permitted this, and we just did our holiday celebrations later. Coming to the states is obviously better to fly on Christmas day, since you gain time, but lat year (or year before, I forget) it saved us close to $300.

Still cheaper to fly in Christmas than summer time. I feel guilty for having a summer wedding with so many people flying over from Germany. Thank god they love us and have had ample notice this was coming!!!

Oh and try Air Berlin. P got a really REALLY good deal with them.

Yeah, my first flight with them was from Louisville to Frankfurt. In Charlotte, they were overbooked and took them forever to kick enough people off the flight so that we could leave. Very no frills, cattle car experience, almost like Ryan Air. But I figured, ok, bought cheap, get cheap. The next time was from Frankfurt to Indianapolis.

First the plane was late. So they set the departure time back 3 hours. Then every 45 minutes, it would get set back another hour. Then they rounded us all up at around 6pm (flight was supposed to leave at 12pm) and said the plane would not be leaving until midnight. The reason was, although the plane had arrived, they forgot in New York that that crew that was supposed to fly us back would have been in the air to long by the time they got to Frankfurt. So US Airways had to scramble in Frankfurt to pull together a replacement crew. It sucked even more because I was alone with my very bored in the airport non-walking 12 month old having to deal with them being idiots. And then they didn't seem to know how their own airport worked and that was fun while security explained it to them. And there is more. Just never again.

That's what I paid for just one ticket to NZ in January. :( Not to mention the 21+ hours of flight time & 8 hour layover in LA! The world is far too big a place! :crying:

Have you tried priceline name your own price? Can't pick your flights..etc...but i've always saved loads with them travelling all over the world!

Oh dear. Kind of sounds like my United experience. Only that they also lost my luggage (because "it didn't fit into the plane anymore") and that I had to sit next to a broken toilet on the flight from Savannah to DC - it was 95° weather in Savannah.

Hope next flight gets better for both of us!

I paid $2000 for our flights from Cincy to Gatwick (London) and that was at the beginning of June. 3 weeks later the prices shot up by $500. The only good thing I have to say is that Delta were exceptional, as usual.

I think we all just have to get used to the fact that prices ain't gonna change, the days of cheap long haul flights are over. We don't have to like it though.

:(
