Canceling a K-3 appointment in Juarez

My husband and I filed for both the K-3 and the I-130, the K-3 processed sooner than we expected and we have decided that we are going to wait for the I-130. We have been given an interview date in Cd. Juarez for the K-3. Does anyone know the process for cancelling the interview, do I have to call the consulate. I would not want to do anything to effect the I-130 process.

Advise would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I'd go ahead and do the K3 interview and then the CR-1 later. That's the way the Life Act was designed to work.

We had been advised to file for both to see which would come faster and that we could choose which route to go depending on this. Since the I-130 is coming along quickly it is more convenient to stay on that path. The k3 interview came as a surprise, we are not prepared to travel to Juarez on the interview date. Should I just call the consulate to cancel it? I just don't want to do anything to effect the I-130.

I would be better if you call the US Consulate and try to postpone it to a date closer to the CR1 interview date.

YOU CAN NOT GET A K3 and then later RECIEVE A CR1... anyway... either postpone the interview or you can do what is done at the Dominican Consulate, you request that the consulate "pull" your file from the NVC and change your interview to a CR1... it could work... But if you get a K3 visa... thats IT... you have a K3... your're CR1 is no longer obtainable

Could you please point me to the source of your info? My kids are looking to do just that. The K-3 is on hand, but their circumstances have changed, and the CR-1 is looking a lot better than AOS here for a number of reasons. We're working on getting the I-130 sent to the NVC for just that purpose.

To the OP - I would call and talk to the consulate prior to making a decision. We figured a K-3 was better than no visa, and no one seems to know where the I-130 is anyway.

That is incorrect. You do not lose the CR1. You can do both interviews and get the K3 then the CR1. That is the way the K3 was designed to work in the first place.

VERY WRONG, you can absolutely do both interviews, and recieve K-3 visa and then CR-1 visa.
