VWP and leaving the US

I don't know if this goes in Off-Topic but I couldn't find a more appropriate place to put it so....

My boyfriend came to visit me on the VWP from the UK in December- he stayed for 2 weeks and left after New Years. He flew back to the UK out of Chicago O'Hare airport but did not use the US-VISIT machines upon his exit- he says he never saw them. He did, however, turn in his I-94. Would he have trouble returning to the US for another visit in the future? Thanks for any help.

N-400 Timeline: Houston Office

07/05/05- Sent off N-400 to TSC

07/07/05- N-400 Priority Date

07/21/05- Application Receipt Notice

08/06/05- Fingerprint Notice

09/13/05- Fingerprint Appointment

09/27/05- Interview Appointment Letter

10/18/05- Interview

11/16/05- Oath Ceremony

If he turned in the I-94W there is nothing he has to fear about.
