HELP! We are finally marrried, but now it is time for the filing! We are filing for CR/IR, so Ihave a few questions.

Did anyone else get the "Marriage (duplicate) Register" after their ceremony? If so, can this be used in place of waiting for the official marriage license?

Lastly, what have you all used for other pieces of proof of bonafide and ongoing union? Are affadavits important if we don't have any shared property or a shared bank account?

Any help would be much appreciated!

I used the Marriage Register instead of the official marriage certificate and i got through fine....for the bonafide i sent in phone bills, and two affadavits from friends confirming our relationship and I opened a savings account and add my husband's name as a beneficiary...Proof of bonafide is really not necessary but its better to have more than less....

U can use phone records, mail, cards, plane tickets, letters and such as proof of a "real" relationship. Not sure what kind of affidavts u ar referringto..but u need a affidavit of support to show that u can take care of him and u along with anyone else u claim..hope that helped some

I used the marriage registrar and it went just fine. For bona-fide marriage i just had pics of me and hubby from different visits and pics of us with family at the wedding. Other than that we didnt have anything else cause we had just got married. Bona fide marriage really is an issue for people who have been married months or years before filing. USCIS understands that you have not lived together and may not have alot of joint things together yet...so bona-fide in your case just needs to be proof that you have spoken seen each other, communicate...etc.

Congratulations on your marriage. I made a copy of the marriage register when I filed. However, the RGD is responsible for giving you a marriage license with a seal. It is on purplish paper. Perhaps you can request that the license gets expedited,

The Embassy wants to see that this not a paper marriage. Gather every thing (significant & insignificant). Keep airline tickets, boarding passes, hotel receipts, formal wedding & informal pictures, Western Union/Moneygram receipts, phone records, etc. Start placing the proof in chronological order in a binder.

I used the Marriage Register instead of the official marriage certificate and i got through fine.

I sent the forms in right when I got back. I had my senators office at the time double check and then they sent the packet in. They told me to send a few pictures of us in it. One every year we dated and a marriage picture. That is all that I sent in the packet for prof. I also wrote a letter on how we met and feel in love and sent it in the packet to.

Then when we had the interview. I had a binder with airline ticket stubs, photo copies of my passport of every time I visited, a list of all our phone calls, photos of dating, the whole picture book of the wedding, 3 years of my taxes, a year worth of bank statements, emails we had sent, yahoo im logs, cards we sent each other.

Each piece of paper you send to NVC make sure you copy it and keep it in the binder to. I kept all NVC letters and confirmation to. If you don't go to the interview you can put a binder together and give it to your husband for the interview.

I hope this helps a little bit!

Congratulations on your wedding!! All the best. This will be the roughest part of your marriage being apart for 9 months. Make sure to send the papers in right away. When I got married I had my husband sign all the paperwork before I left and got a copy of his passport made because you will need this for one step in the process.

All the best on your journey!!
