Hi all,

I have looked through the topics here (9 pages) and can't find the answer... David has his K-1 visa in his passport, good til like October or something. He's got his I-94 and it's good til 7/31/08. We would like to travel on 7/11 and 7/13 on a plane back and forth from MD to Florida. We're still working on the AOS packet, but it's not sent in yet.

I just want to make absolutely sure that we won't have any problems traveling within the lower 48 on a plane. I assume that we've got to bring his passport and his I-94. Anything else? Marriage certificate?

Anybody ever have any problems? Good experiences to report?

TX!!! Shannon

PS... Just a hypothetical question... can we travel after 7/31/08 on a plane until he gets his temp permanent resident papers after we file for AOS/EAD/AP? We don't have any plans, just a thought. What happens on that in between time? No air travel within the lower 48?

AOS & getting the SSN & the I-693

6/13/08 Applied for SSN for David ----- TRIP 1; 6/23/08 Went back to SSA 'cuz the person didn't pc all documents (rec'd letter from them) ----- TRIP 2

7/2/08 Received David's health insurance cards! Yay!

7/3/08 Went back to SSA; they said come back 7/9 if he still hasn't received it ----- TRIP 3

7/8/08 Got list of vaccines he still needed from CS by fax/phone; tested for immunity to MMR (only vaccine still needed) at our family dr

7/9 & 7/10/08 Went back to SSA, card still not received - Denied opportunity to apply for replacement ----- TRIP 4; Went back to SSA again to apply for a replacement card - Talked to a supervisor this time, POE people entered his last name incorrectly ----- TRIP 5; went to get David's ID thru the State, denied - instructions wrong on website; measles test inconclusive, another test needed; requested new lease

7/14/08 SSA called me in regards to problems at local SSA office

7/15/08 INFOPASS appt to fix POE name input error and then went to airport to fix POE name error

7/17/08 Received SSN card in mail and went to get state ID

7/21/08 State ID received in the mail and tested again for measles immunity

7/29/08 MMR shot #2 given and dropped off papers at Civil Surgeon (CS)

7/31/08 Picked up I-693, completed by local CS, (I paid $25, don't be fooled)

8/3 - 8/6/08 Worked on forms I-485, G-325A, I-864, I-765 and I-131; sent to Chicago - YESSS!

8/11/08 NOA1 for AOS, EAD and AP; 9/2/08 Transfered to CSC; 9/4/08 Biometrics

10/24/08 Rec'd AP; 10/27/08 Rec'd EAD; 11/24/08 Rec'd GC

This is a FAQ, there is no restriction on travel within the USA on a K-1, NO AP required.

NOTE: you can travel to the other 2 states, Alaska and Hawaii as long as the flight does not stop in another country.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

Thank you. I looked through the posts and somehow missed those... weird. I guess I saw Puerto Rico, honeymoon, etc. and dismissed them.

I'm going to suggest that this gets added to the FAQs section somewhere. With a list of the exact rules or something.

Thanks again!

Customs at airport only cares about International travelers, " I should know, got stopped 3 times last time I got off of plane from Paris, and Im a American" doubt you will be questioned getting on or off the plane in the U.S. stick with domestic travel now.

Truly happy!!!

New life, new adventures, and a new attitude.

If he has a US drivers license or state photo ID card, use that instead of his passport. If not, you shouldn't have any problems. We had no hassle traveling within the US, and only minimal hassle traveling to US territories.

Exactly as the above poster said...just use the driver's license if he has that. For a "domestic" flight that's all they need. He won't be asked for a passport even though the driver's license may be from another country. I'd bring it just in case, but don't offer it up front. I've traveled with my fiance from WI to FL before and also asked the airlines about foreigner's traveling within the US. No problemo.

3/5/11 sent LOC paperwork

3/9/11 date of NOA

?/?/?? biometrics appointment

YES... because you go into international water with foreign ports of call....

YMMV

What if you just stay on the boat? or is it just the fact you are IN international waters..? Is there any paperwork you can have that will allow a cruise? thanks so much

Does not matter, if the boat takes on or could possibly take on a foreign person then ALL will need to clear passport control without exception

YMMV

Hi,

My husband doesn't have either one of these yet. Will it really make things easier? He doesn't have an international driver's license either, just his National Identification Card and his passport, etc. from his country.

We're still waiting on SS# to go apply for the learner's permit! I assume that we'll need this when we go. Even for state photo ID...

He can likely get a state ID from the DMV office once he gets his SS card (not sure if he needs the EAD, too). Check your state's DMV and see what's required to get a photo ID.

My husband doesn't drive, so we got him a photo state ID which is what he uses for US travel.
