Starting the AOS journey

Paiwan and I were officially married on Friday Feb 3rd.

So now we will be working on filing our AOS paperwork and continuing her immigration journey.

Today, Paiwan applied for name change for her SS Card, got added to my bank accounts, received a State ID card, got the vaccination supplement from the Civil Surgeon, and had passport photos made for the AOS paperwork. So she had to use her new name today when signing things, and was all giggles about that. We are using her thai last name as her middle name. And she got on me for not telling me we were taking her photo today (for the id card and the passport photos). <oops!> .

We also printed out about 150 photos from my trip in dec to thailand, as well as photos from her 1st month here in the US and our civil wedding ceremony. She has organized these into a photo album an annotated them in thai for her mom and sisters. We will be sending this to her mom this week.

So, all i need is a translation of her birth certificate to english. I have a jpg image of it, and need to find out where to get this done. I tried calling some local translation services services but they were mostly for spanish.

Anyone have any reccomendations (web or brick based)?

FIRST.... Congratulations on the marriage!

Now you are in for the long-haul journey! LOL

You have several option for translations ... the Thai Embassy, or in fact many local universities have a Thai students association or you might even find a language professor at a local school / university. Sometimes there is even a local Thai community center or organization in the area in which you live. This should not be an unsurmountable problem. Remember this has to be certified so there is certain language to be used for certification and it needs to be notarized.

Also, make sure that you have several certified copies of you marriage certificate (this is not the marriage license). You will have to obtain them from the locality in which you were married.

This is not entirely true. The person that translates the document needs only to attest to the fact that they are fluent in the subject language, and then place their signature on the attestation.

Having this attestation notorized is not required.
