Hi ALL!

My husband received his EAD card today {mine wave... yaaa}. We headed straight to the Social Sec office in Aurora, CO.

After the wait he was presented with a letter stating:

"This is to show that you requested a Social Security card on May 12, 2006. We cannot issue you a Social Security card until we check the documents you gave us to show your citizenship or alien status. We will check the documents with the agency that issued them. This will take about four weeks."

:bonk::bonk:

Are they flipping serious?? Does it REALLY take 4 weeks? Please someone shine on a light on my Sh*t parade and tell me they got the same letter but had the SS card within 10 days.

I was so hopeful that this leg of our journey would go smoothly. After all, our EAD was approved in no time and we have our AOS fingerprints in the morning after just barely filing the app!

So.. does it really take 4 weeks????

Was he 'in the system' when you got to the office. If you're not(I forget what the 'system' is called...Mdyoung is the expert here and he and many others would probably know) then it takes a bit longer. If he is, you should be receiving it soon. Craig got his card, if I remember correctly, less than a week after we went to the office. All the best to you, M.

Thanks Michelle, this gives me some hope now.

My husband thinks that she was able to locate him in the system. I was trying to keep a 5 year old busy at the SS office and missed everything that she told him :dancing: , so who knows... I hope he is not in the system and this isn't just another automatic "check" I see most Pakistan men face..

He was soo looking forward to working next week :crying:

It took my husband almost 4 weeks. However, in his case he came here on a K1 Fiance visa and applied for his SS# less than a week of arriving. But since it appears that your husband is in the system, he should be receiving it soon. :D

ALL things work TOGETHER for GOOD!

Could take less, could take more. The SSA office needs to allow at least that long to receive a responce to the G-845 request to verify his work authorized status.

About all he can do at this point is go back to the SSA office once a week with his documents and ask them to check SAVE again and/or ask if the G-845 came back. After 30 days he can ask the SSA office to follow up on the original G-845 by calling immigration or sending another.

Being in the system is not the only thing that matters. It must list the person as “Temporary Employment Authorized.” Plus the name must be spelled correctly (Allowing for one letter to be incorrect) and the date of birth must be 100% correct. Any of those would be cause for the G-845 to be sent. Don't know if it is your situation, but it seems that when an AOS is pending the EAD info doesn't get entered into SAVE.

RM 00203.740 Requesting Additional (Manual) Verification By DHS

B. Procedure – How to Request Manual Verification

STEP 6

DHS should respond to SSA within 15 federal work days after receiving the Form G-845. If DHS does not respond within 15 federal work days from the receipt of the G-845 from SSA, follow-up with the DHS, USCIS Immigration Status office. (Allow 15 days plus five additional federal work days of mail time for the G-845 to be received at and returned from DHS. Follow local practice to follow-up with DHS. Some SSA offices have an arrangement with the DHS, USCIS office to telephone for the follow-up contact; other SSA offices send a copy of the original G-845 annotated “second request.”) If the DHS response is still not received within 15 federal work days after the follow-up contact (if the follow-up is by mail allow five additional federal work days of mail time for the G-845 to be received at and returned from DHS), make a second follow-up contact. If the DHS response is not received within 15 federal workdays (again, if the follow-up is by mail, allow five additional federal work days of mail time for the G-845 to be received at and returned from DHS), after two follow-ups, contact the RO. Also report to the RO any trend that shows a serious deviation by DHS from the above time frames. The RO will consult with central office

Of course that's what they would like for you to do. That way they don't need to be bothered with you again, but if you just sit back and wait, you could be waiting forever.

Why in the world did the SSA wait two weeks to send the G-845? That should have been done right away.

Hi!

I see you're also from Colorado. I have the same problem, and as of the moment, am on the waiting game. I received my EAD card last week of April and went to SSA office (Aurora) the next day. But they asked me for our marriage certificate which I didn't had as of that time so we had to go back.

The next time (May 1st) we went to SSA Littleton with all the necessary documents. (Aurora branch is much more organized I tell you and quicker). Then everything went smooth, and I asked the lady how long shall the wait be. She said that since I wasn't in the system (I think it was called the SAVE system as I have read in some of the other forums), it will take about 2-6 weeks. And now, it's almost 3 weeks and no feedback yet. Hopefully the wait'll be over soon.

Some of my friends here in Colorado (arrived in the States as K-1) got their SSNs with no problem and got it in just a week. Talk about fast and slow processing.

Well, I hope you'd get your SSN soon, too.

Chris

Hi Laney!

Great news! I just got my SSN in the mail today! Along with the receipt letter from the SSA Littleton branch office. Talk about slow mail.

I applied for SSN last May 1, and the receipt letter said that I should get my card within 2 weeks. But the receipt letter came late, it came with the SSN instead.

So, hang in there, your husband should get his in a week or two.

Goodluck!

Christine
