Letters of Support

When choosing people to write your letters of support for the removal of conditions, who did you choose? Mostly friends and neighbors? Have people used their parents or siblings (or other family members)?

There seems to be a lot of discussion on even sending the affdavit of support in the first place. So for those that did send one (or 2 or 3...) I was interested in seeing exactly who people asked.

We asked:

our pastor and his wife, who wrote a joint letter and who knew us as a couple

two friends (one an accountant, one a social worker) that knew Jerry for years, and knew us as a couple from the beginning of our relationship

one friend (teacher) that knew us as a couple, and also participated in a marriage class with us

We have not submitted on advice of our lawyer since we had 50 pages of other docs. I am actually a person who does not think (never did actually before----till found this forum) and follow advice of professionals aka lawyers. (even if I am a smart person and my lawyer is stupid , he still would know more than I )

But I think that it is not important from whom it is (I read that some people get it from parents-in-law, friends, etc). I think the text is more important-like the person seen you too at home, went out together, etc. So, like some small details which would give to the immigration officer picture of you too as a couple. Plus, I would say that it might have some weight if it is from USC (but might be wrong here-so, correct me)

I got a letter from my parents signed and written by both, my two sisters who document seeing us at family functions, my boss at my job who I worked for before i met my husband and knew of my whole visa journey. I figured that even if you have evidence the more of a variety won't hurt you. So I included them. Must have worked as we were approved. Good Luck

Very good. Thanks for the input all. I think we may only use one letter (from parent) and then tons of other evidence. They don't require the letters so its not as if the packet would be incomplete without them....

Yes, we included 3 letters - one from a neighbor who lives a few houses down the street and goes to the same neighborhood 'Cheers' as we do, and sees us together all the time Another from a friend who lives about 1 mile away who we see at least 1x a week and another from a colleague at my work.

I think affidavits are a weak form of evidence (as posters above have pointed out), but because they were on the list as 'examples' I felt compelled to include them, even though we have more substantial evidence such as joint home purchase, insurance, tax, bank accounts etc (no children though).

I never sent in any letter from friends or family.

They have enough proof with what I sent. If they need them then I will send them when asked.

LOL...would be nice to now wouldn't it? This whole letters/no letters reminds me of the vaccanation debacle for when we did AOS. Some people didn't send it and got a RFE, others got no RFE.

We're running short on time so gonna have my dad write one and send it off. If they ask for more, we'll provide them later. Heck, just want to get in line now!!

Mine is going great so far.

I received my NOA from Vermont on June 18th. Just waiting for bio letter now.

The affidavit was additional items that we included as we do not have some of the evidence considered more standard e.g. no mortgage or lease agreement (was on month to month since I got here. ), no children together, etc. Plus, it was easy to do.
