I seen the movie Water too. I could not get into it. At first I liked it but I had to turn it off. I haet how over there and yes even amongst Muslims too, women are thrown away. (and I have seen that here too)

Anyways....in defense of saudi Arabia, I would like to think that the people who do this kind of disgusting thing are only a mere 1 percent of the population. Saudi has it's beduin problem like we have our redneck problem.....you could compare the white trailor trash in the US to the camel herding beduin of saudi Arabia who have never seen life beyond a herd of camel:) However, many beduins have moved into the cities and have rejected this lifestyle of their forefathers, which can only be a good thing for them. (as long as their parents do not force them to mary a 1 year old...).

I know that not just in saudi, but in other countries too like India and Pakistan (and many more maybe that I cannot name) "sell" their daughters. Well, In Islam a woman is supposed to get dowery anyways. But what happens a lot of times in those countries is that the girl's father is paid, not the girl. So the family of the girl needs money. Maybe work is scarce and they cannot even afford to feed themselves. Instead of using a condom or the pill, oops, the wife gets pregnent with a baby they don't know what to do with. And to make it worse, the baby is a GIRL which means she will never be allowed to work to support the family in the future. So they sell their daughter so the girl's father can become rich off of her dowery and live happily ever after.

Not every country (or person for that matter) does this. The more educated a person is, the less likely he is to fall into these traps. But because the uneducaetd do not know how to rise above social situations or get out of it, they become trapped in an endless cycle.

Oh yeah and I think in Islam a girl can have sex when she starts her period cuz that is the start of puberty. But even so, to the west, that's disgusting.

Do they even have tests to see if you have a boy or a girl befoer the baby is born in that side of the world??? Maybe in the best western run hospitals they do. but I'm sure the moer beduin hospitals do not.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the men have sexual fantasies about having sex with babies - the arranged marriage thing is the concept that one either accepts or rejects. As I understand it, most often the girl stays with her own family until sexual maturity. Of course, that's still a very young girl.

This has nothing to do with Islam. And as far as the Saudi people, I lived there. I did not know anyone who was married as a child . Nor did I infact know any women who were forced to marry someone they did not want to. Most of the women I knew where educated. Yes the laws are outdated and not fair to women or to true Islam. However as in all societys you have perveted people.

As if USA was so "civilized" when I read almost weekly and even daily of a man killing his wife, kidnapping his kids , or how child pornography is a big problem here. Just today there was a Sheriff deputy who was senteced to jail for child porn. We are as sick as everyone else. No society is perfect.
