Advice here on VJ

I didn't take the advice here, but sometimes what one tells you is cause for worry until researched fully and that can take days or weeks. We newbies who are still learning the ropes get advice from the ones who have been there, done that and we tend to take it to heart until the truth is found. I don't think very many people here truly take the advice here without any research afterwards, but it is annoying to have to worry needlessly. Not only that, but I read others posts in various forums and it seems people aren't trying to because they don't even answer the question stated nor do they follow up when further questions are asked. I am only mentioning this because it is so easy to cause stress in this already stressful situation.

Thanks and good luck to all!

You make good points. However, there are a lot of people who do know what they are talking about (and back it up with appropriate links, etc) that aren't listened to because people don't want to hear it. So sometimes it is six of one, half a dozen of another.

People should also remember that every case is different, and just because Joe Blow's case got approved in blah blah blah days doesn't mean yours will.

People should remember that they are ultimately responsible for their own case....taking the word of someone on a forum without checking then double checking yourself is asking for trouble imo....And never PM someone with an immigration question, at least out in the open any wrong information can be corrected by others if picked up.

Oh you mean like people who aren't going through the process RIGHT NOW so we can't possibly know anything about how things are RIGHT NOW?

IMO, the biggest numskull thing about VJ is how some people want to work their own case; they will say how everything you need to know is here; but......they don't want to do any research or confirm what they read. They want to hop on the board, post a question, and recieve an instant response.

Then come on the board six months later when something is mucked up and go....'well how was I supposed to know'?

Duh....you decided to DIY your case. If you're gonna do that, you better be responsible and not bellyache because YOU missed something.

And yes ---- I let my husband come through POE without collecting an I94. And that happened because I didn't DO MY HOMEWORK. So yeah, I can have an opinion on this issue.

Uhm anyone who listens solely to the advice on a web forum and doesnt research ####### on their own is a mornon in my book.

we give advice, and we try to reinforce the guides, thats all. I dont think anyone giving the advice needs to research anything, we have done our research, we have gone thru or are going thru the process still a long time running, anyone needing to research anything before taking advice or asking qestions would be the ppl just startng out on the process and learning it for the first time. how about doing YOUR research and stop asking the same questions over and over and over again, and then getting mad when you dont get the answers you wanted!

Again i strongly suggest, READING THE GUIDES and not taking advice as the only foundation of filing petitions.

...but for official advice-not so good in many cases.

Anyone who takes VJ advice without independent verification deserves to live and die in a permanent loop of AP hell.

We share our experience; but I don't think many of us say we know the whole shebang 100%. If someone does not do their homework and says to the Consular Officer "well, the peepz on VJ told me that..." he or she totally deserves a :bonk:

and again:

I've had questions and posted them and gotten responses, for sure. And then I did my own research. Usually I ask questions that I already have researched and am looking for others with a similar experience to share. I don't know why anyone would take the advice on here without checking it out. NOLO's book is my personal immigration bible.

Sinergy:  I had to highlight that. It was too funny. Don't hate me.

And if you see a poster begin a sentence with "You will definitely receive..." or "Don't worry, they will deport..." the iggy button is the safest response.

The only advice that should ever be acted on without double checking for veracity, is advice received from our resident VJ advice columnist, Dear Joyce. Joyce is one hot mama and she knows what she's talking about! She hasn't steered me wrong yet!
