It's looking increasingly unlikely that my fiancee and I will be able to find a sponsor that is 125% over the poverty line, but we have a few options that are quite close. We're capable of making up the difference with money in savings account, but I'm not sure if this is a safe way to go about it.

I don't want to get to my interview and be denied because I didn't get a sponsor that is over the poverty line, so I'm trying to find out how likely it is that I'd be granted a visa by making up the difference with savings.

Best answer comes from someone who transited your consulate, as the application of the affidavit rules vary greatly.....

YMMV

We were advised that savings would not account, despite the fact we have 2 times the 125%. Nor would the fact John owns property.

We haven't been able to find an explaination for why. But I know on one of the other forums, (sorry unable to locate it at present) a couple was able to use the both the USC's income as well as the potential earnings of the SO based on the SO's current employment.

So whilst we are fortunate enough to have a co-sponsor we can also supplied evidence of my current income to help support our application.

Ahh that makes me nervous. So I really should try to find a sponsor that covers the 125% minimum? I didn't think my savings or potential income came into the equation since I'm the one who's getting sponsored.

Me neither. I'll keep searching for the forum and maybe you can ask the poster more about why and how they did theirs.
