My husband actually loved my dog. She lived in the house with us for a year and a half. We had to get rid of her when we moved coz we wouldn't be able to take care of her down here and had no way to transport her (no more room). He wasn't totally against it.. it was just a major hassle for him to have to shower every time he wanted to pray, which in turn caused a lot of issues. If we ever got another dog it would be a small one and there would be a "dog free" room just for praying. My husband is tolerant of all animals and enjoys them very much. We choose to not have a dog for 2 reasons: 1- coz of the washing for prayer issue, and 2- coz the Qura'an says they can't live inside. It isn't "haram" per-se .. just a pain in the butt to shower before every prayer coz of the dog hair all over the place...

I am happy to see there are some muslim spouses who do enjoy having dogs as pets!

And when he first arrived in the US and was home a lot while i was at work, the dog was good company.

But Amal:

There are dog breeds that are "non-shedding" (little or no hair falling out), such as #######-a-poo or poodle or Lhasa Apso....When I mentioned to my husband that these dogs lose less hair than a cat he was intrigued.

i think i would be more worried about a cat digging in their litter box and then jumping up on ur table more then i would think a dogs mouth is dirty. there are tests that prove that dogs mouths are cleaner then humans.

word. no cats (or dogs) on my table.

how do u know what that cat is doing while ur gone...never say never.

 good point

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

all I can say is I'm glad I don't have to worry about what's permitted or not permitted. I told my husband how many cats I had and that we had a dog that live in the house. Now my cat is 16 years old and I've known my husband for a year. I have no respect for people who give up their animals for a man. I'm sorry, I can't trust you if you can do that to the most helpless of living things... but that's just me I know not everyone thinks like I do. :)

BTW, I'm not saying that is anyone in this thread or that is a muslim specific problem. :)
