A schoolboy aged 12 has been identified as an al-Qaeda inspired extremist after sending beheading videos to his classmates, police have disclosed.

The blonde, white schoolboy from West Yorkshire is among 120 people being dealt with by police in a new anti-terrorism scheme targeting al-Qa’eda inspired youths.

He has been identified only by the initials BC and was reported by his school after he was found circulating video clips of terrorists beheading Westerners.

"But he is being influenced and intoxicated by the imagery and appeal of Jihadist and other internet violence."

The 12-year-old boy arrived in Britain as an asylum seeker in July 2005, and at the age of eight allegedly assisted a nine-year-old and a 12-year-old boy in the forced rape of his sister, although he was never prosecuted, police revealed.

Two other cases highlighted by the senior policeman were Muslim youths, known only as NH and YH, who were both 15 when they were reported by their communities because they were showing extremist and racist tendencies.

I agree. This kid was messed up long before he had any terrorist leanings. Looking at that, however, won't generate as much press (i.e. it's nowhere near as good of a story) and it's far more complicated to deal with. So instead, it's easier to just cover up the initial problem and deal with what it's become, instead of attempting to find out why the kid became this way in the first place.

I agree. This kid was messed up long before he had any terrorist leanings. Looking at that, however, won't generate as much press (i.e. it's nowhere near as good of a story) and it's far more complicated to deal with. So instead, it's easier to just cover up the initial problem and deal with what it's become, instead of attempting to find out why the kid became this way in the first place.

My concern is if this sets precidnece for what makes a terrorist then implications will be far reaching.

Well the premise of the article is surely wrong - a sociopathic child fantasising about being violent through some sort of vicarious thrill over internet videos clearly does not make him a member or an affiliate of a political extremist group.

As shocking as this might seem at a glance - from reading the article it would seem that the UK Police are guilty of kneejerkery and fear-mongering for presenting this child in a manner which is simply not accurate. Clearly the kid is very disturbed and should be in some sort of psychiatric institution - we shouldn't be painting him as an extremist on the basis of a very thin premise.
