Filipino/Family Traditions

What are the Filipino or your family traditions that you want to pass on to your children? Obviously since they will be growing up in the US, most of their ways/practice will be "Americanized."

I want to start off this thread with two very important traditions (I personally believed) I want my children to observe:

1. Pagmamano

I don't think I'd be able to apply this with my husband's family since it's not their way. So I planned to teach my children to practice "pagmamano" to any Filipino friend (years older than them) I will have in the place where I will be living. I will tell them what "pagmamano" signifies. Also, when they get to meet their immediate relatives (my immediate family) they will no longer feel awkward doing it because they're already used to it and most importantly, they knew that doing it is showing respect to the elders, and it's a Filipino trademark :D

2. Calling people older than them (relatives or not) Uncle or Aunt/Auntie

I still have to think on others  How about you? What's yours?

My husband and i agreed to teach them some Filipino traditions like:

Mano po. Yes, you are correct ate Riza, they can't applied it to my husband's family too but they will be required to mano po to both of us (hubster and i ) and to the filipino elders.

Po and opo.

We want them to call each other ate and kuya and not just by their names. Learn to use tita, tito, lolo and loa.

They will carry my maiden name as their middle name.

I'll teach them tagalog word and as much as possible i want them to learn how to speak very well in tagalog.

I'll teach them tagalog folk songs and our national anthem.

To eat using their fingers or hands :D

* i think that's for now. i just woke up from siesta so esep esep pa ako later hehe :D *

That's really great jego :) Maganda talaga pag bata pa tinuturuan ng maging malapit sa Diyos. I will really miss attending prayer meetings with my fellow Catholic charismatic community. I will be attending different church when I get to Mesa. I am sure God is preparing me a great Christian community there to share my faith with.

I will also teach my children Tagalog and Bisaya
