Hello All,

Well, my fiance' went for her interview on the 24th of June.. and after 6 hours she was given a 221g. The consular officer was a complete b****ch who seemed to have left common sense at home. That is the problem with common sense... IT IS NOT COMMON.

neways. after interviewing and looking at the documents, she wasn't satisfied that our relationship wasn't legitimate I guess.

Sooo.. the 221 g states.. to submit " additional proof of relationship including but not limited to"

1) list of guests who attended the engagement ceremony, including address, ph# and relation . ( NOT A PROBLEM)

2) Photographs of the two together (She bloody has these in front of her in her hands!!!!)

3) Photographs from the engagement ceremony (Same thing... my fiance' took the album with her and submitted 6-7 pictures initially )

4) Invoices (if any) from the engagement ceremony (not a huge deal.. but we've decided to submit the dvd of our ceremony.. that should take care of the "doubt" factor)

5) Cards (if any) from family members and well wishers on the occasion (It wasn't a formal ceremony to begin with and secondly... In Indian culture.. no one is going to bring cards.. especially if only close freinds and family are present)

6) Proof of an US wedding plans already fixed such as reception hall, photography, wedding invitation.

( how in all that is holy.. would I make reservations or print wedding cards when I myself dont' know when my fiance is going to be granted her Visa!!!) should I put down the downpayments simply on wishful thinking? my god!!!

7) Notarized statement from beneficiary and petitioner explaining in their own words, how and when they met ( or when they met and how, when and why they decided to marry. Please include an explanation regarding why you wish to have the marriage ceremony in the US instead of India. (harmless enuf.. not a problem)

8) Notarized list from the petitioner noting all travel to visit the beneficiary in India, including proof of the same. ( did not understand the last bit... "including proof of the same" what does that mean guys???

I have attached my statement.. item #7 for your review guys.

My fiance has the copies of all the emails that we originally submitted and the phonebills and the e-cards etc. Should she submit those again??

What do guys think? .... Should I lose hope?? or treat this as merely a roadbump?

When is your K1 approval valid till. You have 4 months from time of NOA. We went thru the same BS, but by the time we got all the info together(3 days), the petition was sent back to US. and we reapplied and this time overwhelmed them with info, I also went to the interview. I suggest calling your senator to make sure the petition stays at the consulate.

Rish1,

You got a raw deal!

I'd use the same documentation you initially submittes to meet the requirements as well as update any records (i.e., new phone bills, ongoing emails, pictures together, travel itineraries etc.)

Good luck!

Interview scheduled for May 7th 2009

Good, make sure you overwhelm them with all the information, also get alot of letters of support(from your parents, her parents etc), we knew our congressman and he sent an email to them as a letter of support.

Get all your info ready asap and send it over.

Proof of the same....Make a list of your trips and they are looking for boarding passes along with proof you paid for your trip like credit card statements . If you had a hotel room ,taxi fares, meals while there show bills paid. If you exchanged money at a bank and can prove it while you were in India would help. The way they worded this did you enter India on business?I would respond with all you can dig up to comply with the request. Did you travel together? Show air tickets to prove you were in the same area at the same time.

Yeah, it does stink that you have to submit all of this information. But, it's not like AP limbo where you are in security checks for an indeterminate amount of time. This is not a reason to despair!

I've seen a few cases at several Indian consulate where additional information was requested by the CO. In those cases, the information was reviewed and the visa application was approved. Submit the information they requested and they will review it.

Bear in mind that financial information carries alot of weight. From what I've seen, a mix of showing familial and financial ties works well. So, receipts for the engagement ring or the engagement party etc will be very helpful. I'm not sure if a DVD will be reviewed. And, the key word here is "representative": photos (preferably of you two with other family members etc), letters, etc.

Good luck! :)

Well guys.. all of your points were well taken and apprciated. I think I dont' need to take this as seriously as I initially did.. because if the consular wanted.. she could've just DENIED the whole thing right there and then. So that's my optimistic thought of the day

Also, I've written a note with a few pictures attached. The note in summary just explains how long my family has known her uncles .. even to the extent that her uncles were present EVEN AT MY PARENT'S WEDDING IN 1979. and the same individuals present then.. are present at our engagement. This can be verified by the picture of 1979 and our ceremony in 2006.

Point being... that i've included a reply.. in case they wonder.. "why did u meet? and why now". The established relationship with my fiance's uncles shows even if Shimpy hadnt' been present at the social gathering.... we still would've attended the function. Fortunately this time around, I got to meet my fiance'.
