Salaam everybody,

Hope this post finds you well.

My fiance received his K1 Visa stamp in May and he is coming next month, inchallah.

Since the time he received the visa and now, I've moved to a different state. Should i do the change of address now and with whom? USCIS?

i just want to know because we hope to apply for his SSN asap, and i'm trying to avoid any delays. i would like for us to just be able to go to the nearest SSN office at the new address.

Any advice?

Oh, i moved from Small town, New Jersey to Brooklyn, New York if that makes any difference.

As always, thanks!!!

You can just file AOS using the new address. It will have no impact on the immigrant getting an SSN. When asked for address he'll be living, he should have and use your new one.

Thanks Pushbrk! (F)

Meaning... he can just get his SSN in Brooklyn even though our visa petition, etc... all have a New Jersey address? i don't have to contact USCIS at all?

Thanks again,

hz

The USC has no requirement to keep the USCIS informed as to there whereabouts (address changes) until they have submitted an I-864 affidavit of support.

YMMV

As you are the USC, you have two options:

  • do nothing
  • file I-865 (sponsor change of address)

When applying for SSN, use your current address. It has no affect on any other paper since your case has been approved & visa in hand. Any further filing (AOS), use your current address. Hope this help!

I used my new address when applied for SSN for my fiancee (now wife) and we got it within 2 weeks with no problem.

For a K-1 visa out of Morocco, the USC does not submit an affidavit of support. So no need to notify USCIS of any changes.

24 March 2009 I-751 received by USCIS

27 March 2009 Check Cashed

30 March 2009 NOA received

8 April 2009 Biometric notice arrived by mail

24 April 2009 Biometrics scheduled

26 April 2009 Touched

...once again waiting

1 September 2009 (just over 5 months) Approved and card production ordered.
