They forgot "he's a secret Mooslim".

Barack Obama is politically expedient. Just like other "change agents" like Tony Blair and Bill Clinton - anyone who thinks they aren't going to be disappointed in some way with Obama in 10 years time is kidding themselves.

Absolutely - Blair offered a lot of promise but in the end I think he just p*ssed off the people bought his promises after the train-wreck of the last Tory Govt.

Still it was the right time for that Change - the tories had really exhausted their stay in office, and Blair at least seemed to be injecting a new energy into the political process.

As far as Obama goes - I don't think the Republican administration is as weak or fragmented as the UK tories, so I find it hard to believe that if he does win that he'd do it with a landslide. Far from it actually - the whole "Change we can believe in" was a mistake IMO - as its now being applied to every statement he makes and every issue he discusses policy on.

Its not "new" its just "not Bush".

Oh boy I agree and yes 'change we can believe in' is such a weak slogan. It is totally meaningless but I guess someone thought it was 'catchy' and he is now stuck with it.

And as you say - McCain has shown himself to be good at the propaganda.

Obama doesn't have any choice but to do the same - but even then he's going to be accused of playing "old politics".

Right, his change theme is a double edged sword. Without specifics, he can avoid responsibility on any policy changes that prove to be politically impossible. But at the same time, he will be attacked when doesn't promote change on a particular issue.

An effective politician must maneuver between principle and compromise, which I think is different from merely being opportunistic. One could say that Bill Clinton, stood on principle, but he left a lot of leeway for compromise. In that sense, it's an issue of varying degrees. GW Bush had less leeway and stood strong on his principles (whatever anyone thinks of them)...however, that has proven to not be very effective either.

C'mon Dev. Who is someone that we should all know about that is more qualified and better suited to run this country? Who should we vote for and why? What makes that person the best candidate? I'm not joking; I'd really like to know. Pictures and slams against other candidates don't do much to promote another candidate.
