What's ur job before meeting ur husbie/wife?

I mean no offense, but I am wondering about people quitting their jobs because their husbands ask them to. Is it to have kids or is it a cultural thing?

Just curious, not passing judgment.

In my case, i need to quit my job as a Network Monitoring Officer because of the time difference between me and my husband. When he is at work, i'm at home. When I'm at work, he is at home. Because of that we can't find time to chat and talk to each other. Since he has higher income than me then we agreed to each other that i'll stop working and he will just support me financially. We also agreed that i will start working back again once we are already together in the US.

It was really a hard decision for me to quit working because i was a candidate for Network Monitoring Head. But then i choose my husband over work. My reason is there are lots of jobs in this world but this man (my husband) is one and only in this world :)(L):luv:

Very true. The time difference was also very hard for both of us when I was still in the Philippines , however, we were able to manage our time and I believe it was easier for me than the others because I owned my time. So, 3 days before my departure to the US, I was still working.

It was a great sacrifice for both of us. I would wake up early morning and start talking to my then fiance at 6am ( and I am a late sleeper) , by that time he was finished with work and could also talk to me. By 7:30 am I would excuse myself and had my bath and breakfast while he had his dinner after which we continue chatting until 8:30 then I go to work. He would wait for me and I would go home at 11:30 to talk to him again before he sleeps and I would have my lunch at about 12:30. I give him his tuck in call for about 2 minutes and I go back to work. Then at 5:00 p.m Philippine time ( 5:00 am here ) I was already home from work and he was awake and we would chat until he goes to work. When I was ready to sleep, I would text him and he would give me my tuck in call ( we had tuck in calls everyday ) Weekends, we talk whole day. Before I met him, I was always in the office by 8:30 but since I started chatting with my husband I was late a lot and would arrive at 9:00, lol ,unless I had to go to court and had to be early. As I said, I was in a better position because I didn't report to somebody and no timecards to worry. Everything worked out well and I need not quit my job. I asked my husband to give me three weeks after receiving my visa to settle everything and endorsed my cases to a fellow lawyer in the firm.

If a number of people did quit their jobs then probably it was the best decision for them. I am sure, when they get here they will be working again. For now that there is a great distance between the couples, and the time difference, being able to talk to each other is priority. For us though, I believe it is partly a cultural thing because for most Filipinas, the family and the husband always come first than their careers. It is a sacrifice but it keeps the bond stronger.

I am enjoying my life now as a housewife but I am ready to work. This is by far my longest vacation ever since I have been working from the time I got out of college until the time I had to leave the Philippines to join my husband here. My husband understands my "need" to work. If children do come along and I have to quit to focus on my family then I will.

As long as the person is not coerced to quit working for whatever reason, then all is good.

Candid Witch....what part of the arrangement did your husband compromise on?

And your use of the word 'consequences' makes me sad.

I agreed not to work "for the meantime" but... he agreed that I could work when we are already together...

I could work there but "no office jobs at home" (which is better especially when we already have kids)..

Hmmmm... Is it me who used the word "consequences"? (sorry, perhaps i didn't read again the whole thread carefully as I can't trace that).. :)

I promise to love you in good times and in bad, with all I have to give and all that I am, in the only way I know how -- completely and forever......

the last job I had before I moved to the US was working in the kitchen of a maximum security kitchen... I was only there 8 months but it felt like 3 years.. they kept adding more and more jobs for me to do in the same amount of time.. I was getting very stressed out etc... so my hubby told me I could quit and he would send me money.... we knew we were close to interview time anyways...

I was a Financial Analyst & Head of the Billing & Collections Department. My husband asked me to quit my job and promised to support me financially & double my salary instead. The bottomline is: it was because of time zone difference between us. At present, Im just managing my family's hacienda business (sugar cane plantation), while waiting for our visa. Nice thread Wendy. Go-go girl! More power!

Interesting that you refer to the money your husband sends you as 'salary'.

Do you see being his wife as your new job? Is he essentially paying you to be his wife?

Go-go girl! More power!

Sometimes it is the women with the least power who make the most noise about having it.
