what do you guys say when you cross back into Canada for a visit when they ask your citizenship?

Do you explain that you're canadian but living i the US with your wife/husband in the process of getting a green card? Or do you just say canadian and leave it at that? Is it ever a hassle?

How about coming back to the US?

3/5/11 sent LOC paperwork

3/9/11 date of NOA

?/?/?? biometrics appointment

This is the typical conversation when you cross:

At the Canadian border....

Q: Citizenship?

A: Canadian

Q: Where do you live?

A: Florida

Q: What's the purpose of your visit?

A: To visit family.

Q: How long are you staying?

A: x weeks.

Q: Bringing anything in?

A: A few gifts but nothing valued more than $60.

Q: Any alcohol or tobacco?

A: Yes/no

Have a nice day.

At the US border....

Hand them the greencard (or the passport and AP) and wait for the questions.

Q: Where do you live?

A: Florida

Q: How long have you been away?

A: x weeks

Q: Any alcohol or tobacco?

A: Yes/no

Okay.

Have a nice visit, CBR!

I just drove back last week and also handed the US border dude my travel papers (AP), as well as my Canadian passport and thought I'd even throw in my Illinois driver's license. Overkill? Perhaps, and they were pleased. I was then sent in for secondary where they clicky cklickied on the computer and then stamped all the papers, replaced that card stapled in your passport, and kept one of the travel papers (AP). You get to reuse the one you keep with the stamp on it now.

It was all good...it just took long.

Even on Grasmick Forum, there were oft references to colleagues who had chosen to do AOS (for employment-based GC) and had wound up spending "quality time" with INS/USCIS when returning to US on AP.

For the Canuck border guard, your Canuck passport (or citizenship card if you have one) will do nicely; the AP needs to be shown to the US border guard.

You must show your I-512 (AP) and passport to the officer at primary. If it's your first entry on the I-512, you will be sent to secondary for the I-512 to be processed. Make sure they stamp with I-512, passport and a new I-94 with the parole stamp. Make sure they give you a new I-94...
