Case touched? What does it mean?

What does it mean when you see that someones case has been touched? How do they know? Has information been requested and that's what is meant? I'm new...just trying to figure things out.

What is your status? Did you file N-400 to naturalize for citizenship, this forum has to do with persons naturalizing for US Citizenship.

And register your case receipt number, get an e-mail confirmation, then go back to that site above and login.

You will see something like this:

I don't know why some use the word, touched when they actually mean if and when their case was updated, I mean:

My case was touched.

My case was updated.

Number of typed letters is exactly the same.

With Nebraska, our cases were never undated, our application date is 03/31/2008, but it took over a week before our case was online with that Last Updated date of 04/05/2008, but we received the receipt, biometrics, and the interview letter which would indicate somebody was looking at our case, but that date never changed. Same with the I-485 and the I-751, so for us, checking online status is a waste of time.

If you do not want to register, just type in your LIN*xxxxxxxx Application Receipt Number: hit search and get a message something like this:

Application Type: N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION

Current Status: Case received and pending.

:on March 31, 2008, we received this N400 APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION, and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. We will notify you by mail when we make a decision or if we need something from you. If you move while this case is pending, call customer service. We process cases in the order we receive them. You can use our processing dates to estimate when yours will be done. This case is at our NEBRASKA SERVICE CENTER location. Follow the link below to check processing dates. Yours will be identical except for the date and Service Center. It's another untouchable message that never changes.

Can look up the processing date at your local field office, ours is in St. Paul and shows they are processing N-400's as of July 27, 2007 meaning for us with a March 31, 2008 receipt date we shouldn't expect to hear anything for the next seven months, at least. But our interview is scheduled for July 17, 2008, so those processing dates are also incorrect.

Yet your congressman, senator, Ombudsman, calls to the USCIS, or even trying to make an infopass appointment all rely on those published dates and won't or can't do anything until that published processing date is at least 30 days later than your receipt date.

So if you like that touch word can say your case has not been touched.

Touched and updated are not the same thing.

"Updated" means that the status of case has been changed in the system, for example, that the fingerprint results were received. In your case, the last update was0 March 31, when your application was received. The next update may say, for example, that they sent you a fingerprinting letter.

"Touched" means that only the "last updated" date changed (that's the date of the last update in the computer system, not the last update to your case). It means, literally that at a minimum, someone physically touched your file (so they had to change the date in the system), but whatever they did, didn't affect your status in any way. Your last touch was April 5. On April 5, someone did something with your file, which is better than having it sitting collecting dust, but not as good as if they'd (for example) actually sent that fingerprint letter.

Ha, all I know about my wife's case from checking the USCIS case status web site, it never changes since day one. Day one is the day I received her receipt notice as delivered to my mail box, that old fashion boxy thing that sits in front of my house, by a guy wearing blue driving a red white and blue mail truck with USPS written on the side. He delivered a letter from Nebraska giving us a receipt notice with that LIN*--- number on it. Since I was registered a long time ago, added that number to my list and that April 5, 2008 date showed up and hasn't changed since.

But did also get the biometrics appointment in the mail as well as her interview notice so I feel the most effective method of learning your case status, is to check your mail box.

Was getting concerned about wife's and daughter's ten year cards not coming in with Nebraska showing a July 05, 2006 processing date and their extension running out. But without any notice and wasting my time making calls, sorry, Nebraska is processing I-751's July 05, 2006, check back in a couple of years, both their cards were in my mail box without any notice whatsoever.

Has anyone here had their case status updated or touched since day one? Do I need to buy a new computer?

For all my other cases they were updated/touched; however my N400 has yet to be touched/updated. I am wondering if they are supposed to be touched/updated after you get your biometrics done. I thought they were, at least all my other cases had been (AOS / I-751). Has anyone else after having their biometrics done had their cases status for N400 show that it had been touched/updated?

All the same number on all of our received I-797C's LIN*00122xxxx, has to be a 13 digit number to be accepted, so a * had to be added after the LIN.

State Department was more honest, after posting your passport number they admitted they don't fool with their computers anymore. But I would be touched if the USCIS would touch my wife's case.

3rd line down on the I-797C on the far left, Application Number. On ours it is the same number for the receipt, biometrics, and the interview. Did you have your interview already?

That is what I got too, this is an exact copy of it:

You don't even get that far if you didn't enter exactly 13 characters, get a message instead to enter 13 characters.

If I play around with the last one or two digits of my wife's receipt number, may get someone else's or that above error if they have no case record on their database, but didn't do that more than a couple of times, don't want the FBI knocking on my door, just a typo.

So only can conclude if you are typing in your number correctly, it has not been recorded, did you receive any information from your service center? Did you send in a personal check to learn if that cleared your bank?

Did correct my wife's number, got the same old untouched unupdated message.

I did the correct numbers I'm 100% shure but every time is the same message I did registeration and when I put my account number there shous thet my case is last updated on 03/25/2008 short after my fingerprinting!!! After this I had my interview - appruved, and now I wait ......
