I have friends in PA who even agree with me, this isn't a great state. I sure didn't move here for the lovely scenery that's for sure.

Duh. You moved here for the smoke stacks and pollution. haha

Emt- I definetely agree with you there and I know all the states aren't like this, and that is why Jared is willing to move with me if I feel like going somewhere else. I did some research and it appears that Lancaster, PA is somewhere I would love to be. Ive been there twice but never to thw downtown. And as someone mentioned in this thread, they liked it a lot as well. Its very quaint and I think I could really see myself there.

Where you live is personal and not a reflection of who you are in a lot of ways. If may reflect parts of your personality but its not related ot the core of who you are.

ps-i dont know why we cant pump uor own gas! you end up getting ripped off actually because a lot of times you will say, "give me ten dollars wroth of gas.." and the guy pumps 20 and said you said 20. I thought it was to have more opporunities for workers, but it probably is some stupid safety thing.

My environment affects me greatly. Thats always how ive been as a person.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Thinking from your head is logical. Thinking from your heart is rational. Life, the way I see it, has to have a balance of both but your head ALWAYS has to be in every decision you make. For example. my heart wants me to go back to Canada, however, my logical brain is telling me that I have to compromise and that to move back and lose status would be irrational.

The way I think of it is that your heart/soul should know your greatest desires and your mind is an extremely capable part of you that should carry out what your heart desires -- the mind should serve the heart, not the other way around. If you lead with your heart, you are leading from love; if you lead from the mind/ego, you are leading with fear.

Don't ask me for too many examples from my own life, because I'm still figuring it out!

I may be in the minority but I kinda like NJ (it's a good thing because I'm moving there in 3 weeks! Yikes!). What I like about it is all the parks and places to go to run and walk. And we're an hour and a bit from the ocean! Now, my experience is South Jersey and a little bit of Central (south of The Oranges). I have been to Newark and I wouldn't want to live there. So, thetreble, I hear where you're coming from sister. I NEED green and places to walk, so I would be very unhappy where that isn't possible.

Drivers in NJ are crazy. When they get upset with me, I just pretend they're saying, "Welcome to NJ" and I wave back and smile and say "Thanks!" Or, in a private Canadian joke just with me, I say "Sorry!" (because that's what we Canadians say) and smile and wave. It messes them up. And if that doesn't work, I salute them with the Jersey State bird!!! In the English to NJ language dictionary, that one comes up a lot! :)

I too think the evironment affects you greatly. Some ppl are big city, noise, ppl on top of ppl. And some are the small town/country ppl. And if you put someone in a place where they are not suited for, it can really mess up their inner peace/balance. That why we hear ppl refering themselves as small town or big city girl/guy.

I myself hate the big city the rush to go nowhere and how ppl are always in your face.

When i lived in the Soo (grew up there too) I just wanted to get out of town. And for some ppl the Soo was considered to be small. I moved to Heyden as soon as I could the middle of nowhere was best for me.

I think once you find your place that you feel comfy in you will be able to be yourself again and not on guard. That place may be Lancaster, PA. I think you should find out since your hubby is willing. It may bring you peace of mind and then you may want to stay.

Good Luck

Danielle

faylen, wait until your citizenship is completed, then send in the stuff for CIC. Most CIC applications for spouses are completed within 3 to 6 months anyhow, so if your US citizenship is moving right along, you'll be in Canada by this time next year anyhow :)

James and I are starting the paperwork again to move to Canada. I honestly don't like it here much at all, its becoming familiar of course after nearly 4 years, but its not home.

I have an Aunt who lived in the US for 45 years and she never felt at home either. I don't think I'll torture myself quite that long :P

Itll take us a while to complete James' paperwork becuase he's got a criminal (juvenile) record to contend with that'll take us a few extra months to process. So in the meantime, we're looking to move to central New York state, closer to my family so I can just drive up for day trips whenever I want, and they can come down to see James and the dogs.

Hopefully the paperork won't take us much more than a year. Fingers crossed.

**edit to add** and check out http://roadtocanada.com/ for info on immigrating to Canada. There's a US2Canada section.

Thanks Reba! We might do just that =) So really, it only takes 6 months to petition?? I guess we'll take things one step at a time. Right now, the main thing is to become a citizen.. then move on from there. Well good luck to you and James. I hope everything works out for the best for you guys also. =)

haha Well you might be one of those that loves NJ. The shore is great but at what cost? Shore traffic is the worst traffic I've ever seen in my life, you have to pay to use the beaches, they are swarming with people and the water is freezing. I LOVE the beach but any one who lives north and goes south in the summer is crazy. I told Nevada that a 45 minute drive to Point Pleasant from where I live took me almost 4 hours on a Saturday last summer. Just think of all those people in such a small place, and then the fiasco of parking.

It's nice to have parks but many places in NJ don't because they are so incredibly urban. I live just south of the oranges, and believe me, id doesn't get much better until you are like..south of the Driscol Bridge. haha Between the Driscol Bridge and The Oranges theres a lot of crime.

I'm glad you like it but once you live here you might sing a different tune in terms of the 100% positivity. I loved it before when I was just visiting. But once you are driving all day with those drivers, the pretending and joking around will be non-existent.

Sit down my children.

I have a story to tell.

A true one.

One day, a long time ago, I was visiting a then sweetie's parents' house and saw that a flower had been cut and left to die right out in front.

It was a huge flower/plant I had watched grow and appreciated.

I was so angry.

Grrrrrrr...

That is when my wise sweetheart said, "Imagine how ugly that person must feel inside to do such a thing."

The anger dissipated quickly and I only felt compassion.

(Yes, that did amaze me.)

Please sit again, I have another story to tell.

This one a (native) parable.

I don't know if I have already posted it somewhere.

Here goes (the short version):

Two Wolves

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside all people.

He said, "My son, the battle is between two "wolves" inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

Google feed the good wolf and see how much comes up now...blew my mind out this morning.

Just because we don't like a place doesn't mean we need "lessons". We aren't toddlers.

We just need to find a place we're comfortable in.

There is wrong in every single place, I am well aware that there is no place that is perfect. I hate certain towns in Canada too. Its not necessarily an America thing, though I do really miss my family whom I was extremely close to.

I guess if can be said that one man's trash is another man's treasure; it can also be said that one man's hell is another man's heaven.

Thetreble, I hope you find a place that gives peace of mind and everything else that bring you comfort and happiness, your naturalization isn't that far off and in the mean time you may find a place that will be home of the 49th.

What Ron/Sharon said is what I hope to happen. SpiritAlight, I still don't get your point in the sense that you are trying to tell me what my situation is when it really has nothing to do with me "feeding the bad wolf"...if you get my drift? I'm not being a negative nancy just to be a negative nancy and therefore it just gets worse and worse.

What Ron/Sharon said is much more relevant. One man's hell is another man's heaven. Where I'm living now is my hell but obviously someone else's heaven. BUT, it is what it is! I'm not making it up to be my hell because I'm self perpetuating it. I just really do not like it. How about we leave it at that?
