Here's another:

Never refrigerate potatoes or dry onions (as opposed to scallions or the sweet varieties). Never wash them until you're ready to use them. Store them in a dark, cool space like a closet or pantry. These root vegetables require good air circulation. To get onions to last for months, cut one leg from a clean pair of pantyhose. Drop an onion into the toe, and tie a knot close to the onion. Drop in another. Repeat until filled. Hang from a nail in the pantry. Need an onion? Cut right below the lowest knot. Air circulation encourages long life and discourages sprouting. This technique works well with garlic and potatoes, too. And you won't believe how many you can fit in one pantyhose leg.

I'm already part of a grocery coupon list

What is that or how do I find one/get on one?

I keep reading about using coupons, but our local paper doesn't have any and our weekly flyers are just what's on 'sale' (apparently, some stores just list items at the regular price in a flyer format  )

I 'discovered' Dave Ramsey, www.daveramsey.com, he has a set of baby steps that really made sense to me. You can sign up to his website for a bit of free info and I borrowed his books from the library.

Here are the first 2 Baby Steps

- $1,000 to start an Emergency Fund

By having yard sales, selling on ebay, cutting back and socking away that money, next time something happens you won't be tempted to use a credit card

- Pay off all debt using the Debt Snowball

This hint I like alot. Pay off your credit card with the least amount of charges on it, regardless of interest rates on the other cards. You will see that card go down which will give you motivation/instant gratification. Once that card is payed off, roll that payment onto the next card, plus the amount (probably the minimum amount) you were already paying, that is the snowball effect.
