August 2014: I am engaged with my real soulmate. Not an American.

Well - learning to live off of one paycheck while I didn't have my EAD was one of the best things that has happened to us! Once I started working we kept our monthly budget the same, living off of his check and mine goes directly to the credit card (savings now, yay!)

And it must be said also that my husband doesn't make a whole lot of $$$ (he's E-3 in the military so he makes about $20,000/year pre-tax). Things that we do so that we only live off his salary:

- I plan meals ahead of time, make a list and stick to it. We don't eat processed foods and we don't eat very much meat (mostly a personal choice more than a financial one).

- we only have one car

- our favorite restaurant is the chinese buffet in town - for $20 we get a night out once a week!

- we live in a really small town - most of our socializing is BYOB house parties, etc.

- we never pay for anything on credit cards. if you don't have the cash, than you don't need it!

That's about it, really. Once we were in the routine of only living off of his salary it was really easy to maintain that budget (though I can also see how it would've been easy just to use my salry to increase our lifestyle)

Now to save for that down payment!

December 12, 2005 - Received EAD card

December 13, 2005 - Received AP

June 14, 2005 - Case Status Inquiry/Tracer

June 19, 2005 - Letter sent to congressman

AOS INTERVIEW SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 8, 2006

AOS approved - August 8th, 2006 - hooray - done with USCIS for now!

GREENCARD RECEIVED - August 18, 2006
