This has to be a US thingy for while the UK has an assortment of cereals they have nothing like this! Well, not the last time I looked anyway. Regardless, I am sure these types of 'non' food foods are responsible for some of the more shocking developments in human eating patterns.

Yes, I am the cereal nazi in our house and nothing more exciting than corn flakes makes it through the door!

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I never really got to eat the junk cereals, unless they came as a part of the variety pack! I remember liking the Honey Smacks.

ETA: Oh I guess they still sell those! I don't think I know any retro cereals!

It was first called Sugar Smacks. :)

 I can remember seeing the two cereals sold simultaneously at Woodwards Food Floor (grocery section of now-defunct Alberta J.C. Penney-type department-store chain), as well as Safeway and Co-op.

There was also Sugar Pops by Kelloggs (edit: it may have been sold Canada-only), the commercials for which featured Woody

I'm with Steve - Honey Smacks did once have the name Sugar Smacks.

Honey Smacks is a sweetened puffed wheat breakfast cereal made by Kellogg's. Introduced in 1953, the cereal has undergone several name changes. It started out as Sugar Smacks. In the 1980s, it was renamed Honey Smacks.

And Sugar Pops are now known as Corn Pops!

Having sugar in the name is just not PC anymore!!

Corn Pops is a breakfast cereal made by Kellogg's, described by the company as "crunchy sweetened popped-up corn cereal." Originally called Sugar Pops in 1951, and later Sugar Corn Pops, the name was changed to "Corn Pops" and

 I don't know whether is was because they switched to HFCS and could no longer use the word 'sugar' in the name, or if sugar had become a dirty word.

I remember the Freakies!

I was just telling my kids about those this morning....how weird

"We are the real countries,

Not the boundaries drawn on maps,

With the names of powerful men.

That's all I've wanted -

To walk in such a place with you,

On an earth without maps."

My parents were nutition nazis who would not buy sugar smacks, lucky charms and fruit loops. So when me and my brother went to our cousins' house, where these cupboards were stocked with such tasty delights we'd eat ourselves into a sugar coma.

 I had a friend whose mom wouldn't have milk in the house, and this is when my friend was a teenager, and she'd drink TONS of milk while at friends' houses. She was a skinny girl too. It seems if kids are not allowed to have any sugar stuff at all (or milk!), they rebel and want more than normal when they get their hands on it. Moderation is key.
