WARNING RE: MMR!

Hi to all!

To all ladies who got MMR...I would like to warn you that you can't get pregnant within 3 months after getting MMR shot. MMR is a live virus vaccine for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (german measles). Of the 3 viruses, rubella is detrimental for the fetus. It may cause congenital rubella syndrome which includes microcephaly (small brain), heart defects, deafness and eventually mental retardation.

Well, I would just like to warn everybody because I noticed that we are not advised during immunization about the possible side effect of MMR should we get pregant within 3 months time..

i thought only a month too, coz the nurse that gave me shots at slec told me that i can't be pregnant for 1 months.

but to be safe, i won't be preganant right away.

Question...do all the ladies get the MMR shot? I have not heard of this. Geraldyn is 15weeks pregnant and if all goes good will this affect our medical? Does this shot have to be taken before a visa will be issued? Like I said I don't know anything about this shot ...could you please explain more.

i was told by the nurse also that i cant get pregnant for 1 month only but i read in a medical textbook about this before, so i consulted my private obstetrician and my colleagues. they all said i have to wait for 3 months. you may ask your obstetrician. MMR is not given to pregnant ladies. she may be given MMR after she gives birth.

my future mom in law is a retired nurse in the US,she says MMR vaccine should not be given to a pregnant woman or one who plans to become pregnant within 3 months

speaking of MMR, let's say i can provide a medical record that i had MMR shots in different hospital, will SLEC will accept it?

The doctor who did Immunization interview with me said that not to get pregnant 3 weeks after they inject me. Anyway, it's been almost 2 months since i had the vaccine shots.

I had my MMR shot at SLEC last March & I also remembered the nurse told me to avoid pregnancy within 1 month after that. I searched for info online regarding this. It says that the recommended length of time a woman should wait after receiving the MMR vaccine before becoming pregnant is four weeks. However, I should say it is safer to wait 3 months before getting pregnant to avoid the risks...

well chris-lei the nurse who injected me told me about not getting pregnant for 3months. I dont know on others if they tell that advise after shot.

Yes they will honor that. Just present them the immunization record or certificate stating that you received MMR. Have the doctor who administered MMR to you, put the date and have him/her sign it.
