We have our AOS interview coming up this week and we're nervous!

My wife, who is also my sponsor recently lost her job and is claiming unemployment benefit - we have money to stay afloat, and I've accepted a well-paying job from a big tech company, but I'm yet to start...

Will my wife's unemployment affect the outcome of the interview? We submitted the I-864 affidavit for support before she was unemployed, will we need to bring that info (i.e. 2 recent pay stubs?) again?

For those of you who went through the interview already, was the sponsor's job discussed at all?

Thanks :S

Hi...Everyone will have different experiences and variations on what occurred at their interview, I would think it would be best to go prepared for every eventuality.

Personally I wasnt asked for anything other than evidence of joint assets and to prove we shared residence - I showed him the joint bank statement and a few other items which showed we were residing together....he then checked the big file he had in front of him and confirmed place of marriage and that I have one daughter.

We were asked for 2 passport photos of each of us though - which i wasnt expecting - but we went and got that sorted same day. He had already stated he had approved the petition - and we could either return same day with pictures or send them in to the address he gave us.

There is some information on the directions for filling in the Affadavit of Support (USCIS site is very useful) that indicates the applicant can use their funds but there is a criterea - you may find something useful there?

The rule of thumb is - answer only the questions you are asked.

Good luck with it though - I understand exactly your concerns as I am in a similar situation and prepared to show savings, property assests etc.

I agree with truffles - answer only what you are asked about (in our case the examiner asked me if there was 'any change' in the I864 info and I said 'none but my income went up a little bit'). However, if you are asked then you need to respond and I think the easiest thing would be to carry a co-sponsor's docs with you - line up a relative or friend who can do it and present it only if asked for. Good Luck

In my experience, the questions that was just asked was about how genuine our relationship is, there was no question about my husband's (sponsor) job, but I can't guarantee that, just continue doing a survey regarding this matter and have a clever answer to questions about unemployment issue.

We didnt have a similar experience, but at our AOS interview, me the USC, I was asked about my job. I dont know if our IO was real interested about my field, but she did go into asking about the firm I work at, what I do there, how long I've been with the firm etc.

Just be prepared for anything & everything. You never know what kind of IO you'll get... or their mood :)
