Puerto Rico is great.

We stayed in San Juan. You were in the city so you could enjoy the nightlife but there was enough opportunity to take tours (Bacardi Rum Factory anyone?) to nearby attractions, like rainforest, beach etc.

It was February when we went and it was hot and humid. Kinda like NJ is in July/August.

Hotel name?

I believe it was the Mariott San Juan (Resort). Close to beach, restaurants, downtown.

A few tips if you go (even though they are a few years old):

- Interestingly enough, they have a "duty free" shop at the airport. We found Bailey's Irish Creme (1 liter) for $15!! So if you drink, great place to stock up

- If you do the Bacardi Rum Tour, be careful of any rum you buy to bring back. They have one that is some incredible proof and you're not allowed to fly with it.

- PR can be expense compared to the rest of the US (like Hawaii is I suppose).

- Drivers and their cars can be erratic....

Okay, I can't tell you how far of a flight it is, but the best vacation I've had inside US territory is in the USVI - particularly St. Thomas and St. John. There's plenty to do if you like or you can enjoy the most beautiful beaches and water I've ever seen. Actually it's the only place I will get in the ocean because I can see everything where my toes are.

If that's too far, there's always visits to the coast - Maine is supposed to be really nice this time of year I'm told.

Disney World/Universal Studios/Seaworld in Orlando is fun for the young and old alike.

Atlanta is a pretty cool city to visit, and you can always spend a day at Six Flags (I thought it was a blast, anyway).

I emailed her. You'll probably have 15 better responses before she gets back to me :)

Where did you stay?

Sorry, I was there from a cruise, so I can't recommend a hotel. I wish I had just flown directly to St. Thomas. There's places on both islands though, and plenty of websites with reviews on them. St. John is the place to stay if you're prefer more nature stuff (it has the VI National Park) and quieter, secluded beaches. St. Thomas is better for more active things, like shopping or whatever. There's a cheap ferry between the two islands. I think it was ~20 minutes and it's a pleasant trip.

That's great information. Thanks!

Where on Barbados and T&C did you stay?

Disregard Barbados - my wife would need a visa.

Still interested in T&C.

Stayed at my friend's house so no hotel. Everything was super cheap. We went on this crazy tiny plane with no seatbelts to go to other islands too :help: It was loads of fun!

One of my friends just got back from the Dominican Republic and she said it was beautiful and she had a blast!
