I'm retired military and want to get my wife her ID card asap. Does she need an SSN to get id or just marriage certificate? I want to get her quickly under the military umbrella.

Bring her Visa to the base. Bring your marriage certificate, inform the Military personnell that you are in the process of getting a SSN. about 95% of the time they will give you the I.D. but as soon as she gets a Social security number, go back to the base and get it changed. Some cases they will just give your wife a Temp. pass, until she gets a SSN #

I think you will just need to show them your marriage certificate and her visa since she will be covered under your SSAN. They will only go by your SSAN since you are her sponsor.

Yes! Thats exactly what we did and they gave me an ID with temp SSN. When I got my SSN card, w.e just went back and they updated the record on their system and gave me new cards
