In the old forums there was a lot of talk of cliques and some people got their noses out of joint. Myself and a few others formed a clique that was open to everyone (get the irony?). It involves kumquats and smarties (the Canadian chocolate kind, not the US's candy kind), and smurfs. It was a very long and very silly thread.

edit: #######, I think I explained the wrong clique. *sleepy aura* anyway, if anyone wants to join the clique, feel free.

FWIW, I think Frances was mostly referring in her post to the fact that in a lot of these types of threads, expressing an opinion usually leads to perpetuating it. Some people make the conscious choice not to further it even if it means not expressing their own opinion. That sometimes can lead to a feeling of frustration and that may be what Frances is dealing with...the "do I post this so I feel better and the board blows up or do I not post it for the sake of the board and sit on my feelings/expression on it."

Of course, that's just a guess. I'm sure Madame Frances will be along to comment. Or not.

Yeah i hear of these 'cliques' and i just wanted to know. I see people here who are friends & familiar with each other, and I think people mistake that for being 'cliquish'

A Canadian smartie is basically an M&M, but slightly flatter and with more colors.

I think the notion of cliques on this board comes from 2 places (my own theory of course). One is that you have polarization due to region or visa type and so people get more familiar with certain others in those forums. Then when there's any sort of a kerfuffle in off topic, that polarization sticks. The other is that at different stages in the process there's any number of people coming in and out and the amount of time on the boards may change. So, using myself as an example, I don't get on here as much as I used to...which was quite a lot. So for me, I don't know a lot of the newer people and don't tend to gravitate toward those posts in my limited time. The ones I do keep up with are the people that I know and am familiar with...which may feel cliquish to some (depending on what they've experienced in the past and what being out of the loop may trigger).

(Oh, and I knew you were responding to Jodyangel, but in this instance I knew an answer and could get you in the loop. It was the wrong answer, but still. Join the kumquat/smurf/smartie clique. You know you want to. )

There were smarties and cows at the beginning (the cows to torment me mostly so I left them off here) and they kept getting forgotten.
