Just thought I would join in the poo flinging to avoid doing work...

I don't really care whether or not others say congrats to someone, but all this time there has been an argument about it I've been wondering if anyone bothered to notice that a lot of the 'congrats' weren't just that, they were the wishy-washy 'i don't agree with anything you say, but I guess I'm happy for you anyways' or specifically geared to his wife and not him. Just saying that I think a lot of people maintained their distain for Jimi's actions while being polite.

I agree with you there....I know I geared my sentiments towards his wife cos as AS pointed out he was just using it to shout about his ban really....I don't know Jimi, I do know he started a poo fest which didn't grab my attention too much :P As for posting congrats, good lucks, happy birthdays or whatever i post them because I mean it just as Lynne said, and I always feel others do the same, if they don't and just do it for 'post count' who really gives a flying F**k anyway?.

I think it is all very well to have honest and forthright opinions...but there is a way of putting things without coming across as pompous or rude IMO.....I am sure ppl are way more concious of how they act towards others in the 'real world' than they are on this board of late.

Just because I might have a disagreement on some points with some on a thread I would never stop 'talking' to them or stop posting any congrats to them....I have arguements with friends in my life, and can easily pick up the friendship when it has blown over.

I do think it is sad that some don't feel comfortable about posting on this board lately...just over some silly nit picking issues. Ok I understand that ppl think you should just grow a thick skin and let it wash other you cos it is JUST an internet forum and if you can't then that is your look out. But really, no one likes to be called out and pointed at, of course they will get defensive....

is it so wrong to be polite towards others?

over and out.....

After 4 months on here, it reminds me more of high school, with clicks and incredibly bad additudes. I believe i can support myself better on my own. I am so very grateful for the people i have met whom have helped me so much and supported me in my time of pain, anger, and sorrow. If it wasnt for you guys(and you know who you are), i wouldnt be this close now to my Edy coming home, and still being sane.

Goodbye,

Tara

Tara-

I have not been active on this forum as long as you have-and I have no idea nor do I care what this particular " drama" is all about...but I have to say I could not agree more with your comment that I have quoted here.

Someone posted ( can't remember who/when) that some body has to be "the pariah of the week..." It's a shame to me that things turn ugly like this; on a forum that's designed to bring people together who have the same or similar goals and facing similar circumstances.

I thought we were here to share experiences, have a laugh and maybe forge friendships ( or not) through a common goal. I realize from what I have seen ( both directed and myself and others) that I was wrong.

I decided last week to stay away from posting on Off Topic as much as possible-if you post, or open yourself in the slightest it seems you are wide open to all kinds of trash-that- (lets face it)-who has the bloody time for?

It's not a case of me not being "thick skinned" enough or " this is just the internet- so who cares?"....It's more a case of I do not want to be a part of anything so petty and ridiculous. It seems a constant "pissing contest", that I refuse to subscribe to.

I chose to believe that it is the stress of the visa process and the hardship of being apart causes some people to act this way-and not jealousy or insecurities played out on the computer screen. What ever it is-I do not have the time for it.

I for one wish you, Ionescu, a happy and successful conclusion to your visa journey as I do each and every one on here.

This is just my thoughts ( yes, there is my disclaimer-ready for the "poo"). Go ahead and fling..If it makes whoever feel any better about whatever.

IK HOU VAN JOU, MARK

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

...and this little bicker will be all forgotten cos everyone here will be celebrating her good news.

People say congrats out of habit. Very few people are actually "celebrating" JimiInLove's good news. The congrats mean almost nothing. Ya'll are making a mountain out of a molehill, IMO.

FWIW, I didn't congratulate Jimi. Not out of spite but because I didn't think it was necessary. He posted primarily to complain about his ban, not to tell us about his wifes approval.

:yes::yes: AS, you are right...I tend to think the congrats posts have little to do with actually congratualting a poster. I've seen it for over two years on here. People get into poo flings, even yap about others in chat or pm's and then act like best buddies in a thread. I've always disliked what strikes me as hypocritical. I don't play the game and if someone acts like a #######, why should I be nice back to them?

As far as cliques and whatnot... I dunno. I don't feel a part of one, nor do I feel excluded from any. Maybe if you feel that way, you are taking the site too seriously. I really don't know.

I also agree mostly...as I also did not congratulate jimi...though I am happy for whoever gets their green card after waiting but this thread was not for him to share it with us, but to instead be rude basically to us here. I figure if there is someone on VJ that I really cannot stand(and they probably can't stand me either), then in real life I also would not be friends with them. I wouldn't go out of my way to be rude, I'd just not be around them much. So why should I act like that here too and act like I'm happy when I'm just saying it because others are. I do however think it's good to be polite to people even when you disagree.

If someone wants to say congrats I have no problem with them saying it, I just don't personally always say it unless I really feel happy for them.

But at the same time, I also agree with a lot of what Michelle said and commend her for saying what she feels!! I myself am tired of seeing only certain people getting praised for their comments all the time, and if you write something they don't like, a big "boooo" or insult for you. But whatever...that's just how it is around here! :) Only some people are "right thinking" and some are always "wrong"...

So true.

ETA: Threads seem to quickly become no more than a bunch of people patting each other on the back, kissing each other's a**es, and ganging up on the one who deosn't agree. So tiresome.
