After I drive into the US on my K1

Hi,

I just hired a moving company. They've asked for a copy of my passport and my visa, which I will be sending to them. I mentioned to them that I had to fax back something after I went over the border (my stuff is following separately with the moving company). Does anyone know what exactly am I faxing back to them? They didn't seem to be aware of it ... is it specific to a K1?

Also, the movers will have a copy of the customs form 3299. Do I have to have a copy of it as well? I'll have my computer stuff, printer, clothes, and various other things.

Thanks for any info!

I had to scan and email, then send hard copies of:

- My visa

- The bio page of my passport

- The I-94 showing POE and date

I also had to send them a signed letter stating:

- My Canadian SIN

- Visa type

- The POE

- The date of entry

- Entry type (via automobile)

And, no. You don't need a copy of the 3299. As long as you've signed one and they have it, that's fine.

As Krikit says.

I was able to provide them with everything before hand except for the 'stamped' copy of my visa (I did give them an unstamped copy) and the I-94. The I-94 will be critical as they will not allow your belongings in the country without that. At the border when you activate your K-1 they will staple the I-94 (enter/exit visa) into your passport and date it for 90 days. They will also stamp your K-1 visa. Once you have these, you can fax copies of those two documents to your movers. Provide them with copies of everything else before you cross the border. That is what we did. I didn't have to send a hard copy of the I-94 - the faxed copy was fine, and there wouldn't have been enough time for them to get the hard copy before the shipment was scheduled to arrive. We didn't do anything by email - just fax. Different providers may have different requirements. All of my belongings arrived on time and in perfect condition. It was well worth it the cost.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

All they should need is a copy of the I-94... they may ask for more, but the I-94 is all they should need.
