Hello!! Thank you all for all the information posted in this website!!

I am here in the USA with a j-1 visa. I had the 2 year home residency requirment, but with a no objection letter I succesfully received a waiver. I am already arried (we got married last week!! soooooo happy!!) I met my husband 4 years ago in Costa rica. he was born here in the USA. We decided to come to the USA together last year. I studied hotel managment, so I came with an internship program and I am working in the Hotel Buisness. Our intention was to saty here for one year, and then return home. However, we went back to Costa Rica in April to visit my family, and when we came back here in may, we were discusing that we have better oportunities here and all that. He asked me to marry him and told me he wants to stay here for a while. We got married last week and now we are getting all the documentation ready to file my change of status. I just wanted to know if anyone has gone through this process and had any useful tips. I am a little afraid of the interview, although I personally know that I never had the intent of coming here to stay, our situation is alittle complicated since we did move here together... ANy thoughts???

THANKS AGAIN!!

The most important part when you come with the J-1 is to take care of the 2 year home residency requirement, which you did.

For the rest follow this guide: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...page=i130guide2

For the rest, I would say do a search for other people who came under a J-1 visa.

I don't think your situation is complicated, you came through an internship program with the goal to further your study, and therfore will have all the documents that prove that your intent was study/internship.

Yes you moved in together but as you said you were planning to both go back to Costa Rica, if you have both your plane ticket copies with a return date and other documents that prove your ties to Costa Rica, just in case they ask, it will be good to have with you at the interview.

But besides that I wouldn't worry. Get prepared with the documents you might need. What they are really looking into is to make sure your relationship is bona fide.
