I am really sorry to hear that you went through all of that.. I can definitely imagine it was not a pleasant experience at all! :(

I understand what you are describing.. But just to put this out there for anyone that might be reading or in the future requires it... I can help on this one. We know personally the man authorized to do all marriages in Jihed's town and if there is someone wanting to do this (American to a Tunisian or even someone who is not from Tunisia - two non Tunisians) we can help get you through everything without having to bribe or go through any type of hassle. You'll still have to show that documentation, but it will just be standard marriage fee (around 50-60 TNDinar) and you'll have your certificate in Arabic/French on the same day!

marriage in tunisia NOT recommended for non Tunisians. I did it and I would say if you can get a k1 spare yourself the bribes, rudeness and agony. Marrying a Tunisian is fine though...
