How long does it take between getting EAD and getting GC?

If we're doing an AOS from a H1B visa, how long should it take?

We got the EAD in Oct 2007 but haven't heard anything about the I-485. Neither my husband nor I are US citizens so this is under employment-based immigration.

This is a family based immigration site, the great majority of us adjust because we have ties with a US Citizen, so I am really not sure.

I have heard that it can take years when adjusting from a work visa...
