We met through an online game called Guild Wars. He was my best friend and my rock while I suffered through a bad marriage and the subsequent divorce. He was the light at the end of my dark tunnel. :)

A mutual friend "introduced" us online.

Then we met face to face in Nurnberg. I was holding a bag of German toilet paper the first time we ever saw each other (and I have the picture to prove it). Very romantic. We were already amazingly good friends. Who knew then that we'd end up totally in love? I think it was the toilet paper.

We never met. We're married and living in the same house and we still haven't met. It's so frustrating.

This must be at least the third or fourth time I'm relating this story on here. I should probably make something up and see if anyone believes me. :P

Anyway... the truth is that we first met about seven or eight years ago on an online message board system for Sierra On-Line adventure games (if you played computer games in the 1980s and early-to-mid 1990s, you probably played at least a few titles from Sierra On-Line), where we didn't exactly "hit it off" right away. I had ventured over from a different board (under the same company banner) covering a game called Starsiege, which was not an parser-interface or point-and-click adventure; instead, it was a 3D mech game. I had played adventure games before, so maybe that's why I looked at some other places to explore. Whatever the reason, I ended up where my future wife happened to be at the time.

Back then, she said I was "extremely egotistical" and a "real jerk." I don't think anything has changed, but somehow, she warmed up to me. Eventually, we -- and numerous other people from the same board -- got together in an IRC chat room every weekend and that's where my wife and I got to know each other much better. From there, we branched off into e-mail, instant messengers, phone conversations, online gaming, and meeting up in real life.

At some point, we both knew this was a relationship we wanted to be in permanently. Neither one of us knew of the hassles regarding immigration, however. That wouldn't have stopped us, but we were -- for a short time -- under the illusion that the process of foreigners legally getting together was much less complicated. We know better now, of course.

Sweet story, DPX :)

Yeah, we didn't know the hassles of immigration either. Oh well....

Except for all the parts, starting from meeting face to face in Nurnberg, our story is the same.

What, you weren't holding toilet paper when you met Jinky?
