She had told an audience in Milwaukee that, “For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country. Not just because Barack is doing well, but I think people are hungry for change.”

“What I was clearly talking about was that I’m proud in how Americans are engaging in the political process,” she said.

“For the first time in my lifetime, I’m seeing people rolling up their sleeves in a way that I haven’t seen and really trying to figure this out — and that’s the source of pride that I was talking about,” she added.

Her statement isn't exculpatory. She was lukewarm on America before but now she's thrilled because things are changing. She didn't bother to explain why she wasn't too happy before with America to 2007 (start of campaign) she fell back on the "change" pap.

Like a lot of black women, Michelle Obama has probably had periods in her life when she felt anything but pride for this country.

Why should anyone have to justify or explain a statement like that - suggesting that Obama's wife hates America on the basis of that quote is just garbage. Are people really that thin-skinned and nit-picky?

Nay... just the ones that have selective memory loss or competitive bias (thanks, Dean).

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
