Do we have to wait for the actual PR card to arrive in the mail before going to SS to get a card that doesn't have that "DHS Authorization" on it? I'm pretty sure that's the case but I was hoping it might already be in their system or something.

Just starting the journey, haven't yet filed... Until today(2/12/07)!

So I called SS. The person that I spoke to said that having the EAD card was enough to have the "DHS Authorization" removed from the SS card. I don't know whether to believe him, though, because it doesn't make sense.

The SS card says that the holder is eligible to work only with DHS authorization. Isn't the EAD card the DHS authorization? Why would the SS card say someone is only able to work if they have the card, but then that stamp can be removed if they have the card?

I'm just assuming that the card is the authorization that is referred to. If that assumption is wrong then my whole argument is shot to hell. :D

Yes, the person was incorrect.

You do need to have your status updated in SAVE, but given the time it takes to produce and ship your card, by the time you get it your status should have been updated (your status begins on the date of approval, not the date the card is produced).

When you go to the SSA office and submit SS-5 to amend your information, you may be asked for a copy of your I-551. I did this last week after receiving my 2 year card in the mail, and I was asked for it.
