McCain attacks Obama for opting out of public financing

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. John McCain on Thursday accused Sen. Barack Obama of breaking a promise when the Democrat decided to forgo public financing in this fall's campaign.

Sen. Barack Obama repeatedly broke campaign fundraising records during the Democratic primary season.

Sen. Barack Obama repeatedly broke campaign fundraising records during the Democratic primary season.

Obama told supporters in an e-mail message Thursday that he would not accept about $85 million in public funds when he becomes the Democratic presidential nominee.

In the e-mail, Obama said the public campaign financing system allowed "special interests [to] drown out the voices of the American people" and asked his supporters to "declare our independence from a broken system."

McCain said that Obama's move to drop out of the system "should be disturbing to all Americans" and that he may decide to opt out, too.

"Sen. Obama's reversal on public financing is one of a number of reversals ... that he has taken," McCain said while touring flood-damaged parts of Iowa.

"This election is about a lot of things, but it's also about trust. It's also about whether you can take people's word. ... He said he would stick to his agreement. He didn't."

Now - as then, the "promise" issue is the least important aspect of that story.

You're missing my point entirely - and assuming that I'm defending this.

Again - there's more to this story than a "broken promise", but if that's what you think is the most important aspect of it - then... have fun...

And as usual you try to spin your way out of it. You cannot defend this outright lie of Obama's and you know it. More people are just beginning to see what a total joke this guy is each and every day.

more yawn

More nausea.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Oh now, lest we forget, Barry O is the new kind of politician and even he says he is not politics as usual, and he is the liberal loving change agent! Sorry but how is this any change from the past, I mean he criticized Clinton for being a Washington insider and look at what he is doing now. HAHA

They all make empty promises, what's new? Is anyone here surprised??? I think not.

It is an issue, see when it does not go your liberal way you try to spin it and ignore it just like the liberal media does. POINT to consider when voting - Can you trust a guy that made a statement and promise last fall openly that he would use public financing of campaign and not accept private donors or lobbyist money, when now this candidate says he will not use public financing after all? Stop giving this guy a free pass and open your eyes. He lies, lies, lies and lies constantly! He cannot be trusted at all.

I may not agree with this 'tactic' at this point in the game, but perhaps instead of seeing liberal neon signs you should perhaps read up on his reasons for doing so. If that is something possible, of course. next?

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

McCain won't stick to it either ... just wait. The only reason he won't admit it now is because he wants to get some mileage out of this. In the end, McCain's will be the bigger hypocricy too, because he's Mr. Campaign Finance Reform.
