With oil/gas prices continuing to climb, should pressure be put on states like Florida and California by boycotting their tourism industry until they allow offshore drilling?

You are a damn idiot!!!! What do you want to do, wait another 10 years and be worse off than we are now? Get a life u Obama freak!!!

there's no need for that.

Drill that f*ing oil!

So you can pay 8.47 instead of 8.78 per gallon in 10 years? That's about the impact it would have. If that.

No... so that the big oil companies can't use supply and demand anymore

With the relatively little supply there is and the nonexistent extra refinery capacity, you are sure to continue to hear the very same song. Drilling off the shores isn't going to change the supply / demand to any significant degree. The side that the oil companies do not control is the demand side. That's where you get under their skin. Conserve, conserve, conserve. Anything else is futile.

btw, reinhold :P oil wells in the gulf are magnets for fish.

What's on the way? The urban legend that China is drilling off Florida's coast? There's nothing supporting this claim.

If its in the ground someones gonna get it! My as well be us. Batteries and propellars are the answer right? That Obama poop is good heh?

Focusing on that mosquitopiss worth of oil there which won't make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things instead of focusing on sustainable solutions just makes no sense at all.

The US has the largest oil shale reserves in the world.

But I will say this. I would rather we use up all of the other countries oil before we use our own.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

No one knows for sure how much oil and gas there is off the coast of Florida since there has been very little exploration drilling. Estimates put it at between 4 and 10 billion barrels. The amount of gas reserves might be more significant since estimates put that at just over 35 trillion cubic feet. If these eventually come anywhere near the actual reserves, it isn't that insignificant.

There's been a lot of unsubstantiated rumors about China/India drilling in Cuban waters. I don't believe they are true but I wouldn't be surprised if news of Cuba leasing mineral rights to China or some other country doesn't come out over the next few years. China is buying up mineral/energy resources all over the globe including this hemisphere.

Yes, mosquitopiss. As far as the oil off our shores is concerned. That's what we were talking about here. There just isn't much to be had. Not enough to really make a difference. So why bother with it? Why not leave it alone and focus on real solutions.

I would be more inclined to boycott states that DO allow offshore drilling.

Please don't! My family and friends on the Gulf Coast can't afford any more hits to tourism right now :)

Global warming and rampant consumerism are evil so most liberals want the country to ditch their cars and begin growing organic gardens.

Yes and I would also like to request that you evil consumers also grow out your armpit hair and begin wearing hemp clothing if it's not too much trouble.

Sheesh. Broad generalizations are so annoying.

PS aren't home-grown gardens "organic" anyway? hee hee

If they start drilling they'll ruin the coasts and nobody will want to go there anyway. Might as well live with the boycott now and avoid ruining the resources that attract tourists.

Are our state parks open for wind turbines and solar? Works both ways son!

I'm not generally opposed to such idea. The impact would have to be determined, though.
