:energy: Adam got his learners permit today and drove from the library to our house ( about 10 miles) and I was scared!!! but at least he got that over with and can practice... I need to find a guy friend willing to teach him in the car... im a nervous wreck! And his background check finally finished after over 2 weeks of it and still waiting on walmart now to update their system from when the background check didnt finish... Im off work til Monday and we are having a relaxing day. Went to eat chinese food after he passed his permit test and then went walking at the park. My sister and neice from Texas are coming for the weekend to visit and we are just anxiously waiting for them to arrive safely. All is well today... just still need a job for my hubby!

How do you get the learners permit?

Can they just apply for the drivers license or have to get a learners permit first?

If you love me, then I have everything I need

I think you apply for a learner's permit at DMV or AAA (depending).

I got no clue - other than my sister has one. :\

This whole "learner's permit" thing - is new to me, at least. We didn't have paranoid old geezers on the road back when I was a kid... or they didn't complain as much as the "baby boomers" do.

The moral of my story: Stick with someone who matches your own culture.

( This coming from an Arab who married an Arab from overseas... go figure. )

hey Lynn! he had to go to the DMV office with his passport, social security, work permit EAD and proof of residence which was our rental agreement and had the office date it from this month, for extra we brought our marriage cert, and renters insurance bcz it had his name on that as well. Then he took the test for the signs and laws and got his learners permit to drive with someone over 21... and for me this is veryyyyy scarey...

and thanks Mohamed  I could only wish you were closer... im tooo chicken to teach him now...

Depends on the state you're in and whatnot. I know Ammar got an international Driver's License and then came here... and took the driving test and got a license. I doubt it had anything to do with his international DL. It's likely just a law of AR that if you're over a certain age you can just get a DL.

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.

(L) Oooooooooooh Tamara that's so exciting!!! :luv: It must be wonderful to have your Husband with you finally and walking through all the steps in life together to get him established here! I love reading the stories of what you and Adam did next! It also gives me a good heads up on the basics needs in life here and what to expect when getting Waleed established here.

The best part though was reading this:

Went to eat Chinese food after he passed his permit test and then went walking at the park.

I know this will sound " :P " but it makes me swoon with romantic notions of when my Husband comes here. I am so happy for you both to have developed your marriage to this stage. Me next! :D

I miss him so much I feel like a sad Dumbo sometimes with drooping elephant ears.

we're hopefully going for this today. How many times do they let you take the written test before they tell you never to come back again?

Well the end of May, the last Thursday and Friday both days he took the test and failed... when he went there on June 10th to get a GA ID and asked them about taking it again they said they have no record of him... and they were rude to him... so yesterday we did not go back there... I found out there was one closer to us and it had alot of people working (the other one must of had alot of workers on lunch or something) and they said the other DMV is supposed to keep paper work for test on file 30 days...

and there really are no back roads here... I let him drive to the other walmart about 3 miles away... its just basically 2 straight roads he had to be on but alot of curves... I was a nervous wreck and I had to take over the wheel... but going home from walmart was actually very good.

Is he taking the test in English?

My friend from Argentina who has terrible english reading comprehension took it and passed. He just studied the book in english. He laugh that if he passed anyone could pass. Oh and he never drove a day in his 35 years of life.

Good luck to Usama!
