Hi all - quick question and I'm sorry if has been answered before. With the K-1 visa you can apply for a SSN as soon as you enter the country (and after 10 days so you're properly in the system), correct? I spoke with a woman at our local office and she implied you need your EAD in order to get it.

Thanks

Hubby came on a K-1 and got his SS about 2 weeks after entering the country with no problems and no EAD. There was a SS memo posted online here at VJ that we printed off t take with us just incase someone in the local office tried to send us away.

If they give you any #######, ask to speak with the office manager and tell him or her to look at POMS RM 00203.500 C1
