MY husband is going to apply for his SSN tomorrow. The form/application for his ss card he has to fill out is a bit confusing.

I have provided the link to the app.

On question # 3 it ask to check either us citizen which he of course is not, legal alien allowed to work or legal alien not allowed to work. I'm assuming he has to check legal but not allowed to work?

K-1 is "Legal alien allowed to work" for the first 76 days after entry to the USA. After that and SSA will not issue a number until he is again a "Legal alien allowed to work" that is when he has EAD or Green-card.

They wont issue to a "Legal Alien NOT allowed to work" unless there is a compelling reason to issue a number, and NOT because DMV wont issue a DL without SSN.

A restricted SSN card is the same as an unrestricted SSN card except that you can't use it as proof of authorization to work. SSN cards do not expire, so they are all permanent.
