Thanks for your answer. The problem is his birth certificate isn't available. Reading the instructions to the forms I haven't seen that they require a birth certificate from a USC spouse by naturalization unlike a USC spouse by birth. It's just everybody includes one so I'm confused. And what copy of his passport do we need?

To my understanding if he is a naturalized US citizen, he just needs to submit his naturalization certificate and his US passport, I don't see why they would need something else.

I might be wrong though.

Hi! I'm doing AOS from J 1. My husband is a U.S. citizen by naturalization. The question is do we need submit the copy of his birth certificate or just the copy of the certificate of naturalization is enough? And what about the copy of his passport, I'm confused the copy of which one we actually need: the american or the one from the country where he was born in? Thanks in advance.

My wife and I were born in the same country but she's a US Citizen by naturalization.

On the I-130/I-485 it asks for either a naturalization certificate OR a copy of the USC passport (not all USCs have passports).

I just submitted the naturalization certificate.

Any one of these will do:

What Documents Do You Need to Show That You Are a U.S. Citizen?

1. If you were born in the United States, a copy of your birth certificate, issued by a civil registrar, vital statistics office, or other civil authority.

2. A copy of your naturalization certificate or certificate of citizenship issued by USCIS or the former INS.

3. A copy of Form FS-240, Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States, issued by a U.S. Embassy or consulate.

4. A copy of your unexpired U.S. passport; or

5. An original statement from a U.S. consular officer verifying that you are a U.S. citizen with a valid passport.

6. If you do not have any of the above documents and you were born in the United States, see instructions under Page 3, "What If a Document Is Not Available?"
