There is so much oil that is on tap in this country it is not funny. The key is to have the oil companies start pumping there existing wells, not to continue drilling more. The Big Money Oil Companies see the oil that they have in the ground as money in the bank, the less they pump the more it is worth. What makes anyone think that if you give the permission to drill for more, that they will actually pump it anytime in the next 20 Years? I think we just need to get used to being taken advantage of, or fix the system.

Thanks for the bump. Unfortunately for your observation that there is no laughing matter in this supposedly obsene amount of oil on tap in this country... the US government is not really in agreement.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

The Bush administration has recognized it would take many-a-year to actually turn any offshore oil drilling in the continental U.S. into usable gas. Even longer for places like Alaska which actually does more exporting since it costs so damn much to transport it down here. Drilling even more for oil, especially in cases like the ANWR, is pretty damn stupid. It's obvious this country needs to find methods of fuel besides gasoline. I'm sick and tired of the ####### politicians and hacks (most of them Republicans) who continue to push for oil even knowing drilling would solve next to nothing. Saving a nickel per gallon some decade or more down the road when gas is well over $5.00 is a drop in the bucket.

Other fuel sources like FCVs/BEVs has been the solution and remains so. Given how many years it took for even half of the Americans to realize Saddam wasn't responsible for 9/11, it's not surprising how many actually believe drilling more is even a reasonable solution in the slightest. :bonk:

Right now I drive a fairly efficient Neon at 33mpg driving pretty fast, I'm sure 35+ if I drive lower speeds, need a new car, but am waiting for a complete alternative to ICE/gasoline powered cars, not just a more efficient gas sucker like a Prius.

That doesn't make any sense to me.

I'd think that if the markets are down and there is less invested in companies, they would need to jack prices to compensate for the revenue lost in stocks. And companies always pass the bill to the consumer.

Unless we are in abundance of oil, which would lower the price. Supply/Demand.

We were *always* in abundance of oil. It was a speculation game - second-guessing the greed and fear of other investors. Back then the investors were greedy and right now they are afraid, very afraid.
