SEVEN MONTHS IN WAITING FOR GREEN CARD

Your lawyer was extremely optimistic if he said you would have your green card in 4 months. There are a few here who have received their green card that quickly, but they are in the minority. Security checks can hold up a green card application for quite some time. I can appreciate your disappointment though; my green card took 22 months to process with no apparent problems and no RFEs. 7 months isn't an unreasonable amount of time. It can vary significantly from office to office and case to case. You can check here to see the average time lines for different offices for other VJ members:

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Why is it taking so long? Our lawyer said it will only take 4 months...i'm so disappointed

Depends on where you are located. Your lawyer probably said, "It can be as short as 4 months." Lawyers like to state things in terms of shortest time. Unfortunately, it makes you feel bad when things don't come out daisies up your favor.

Best thing you can do is hold on. Four months is nothing - hell seven is nothing.

It can take up to 8 years and lately has been easily taking 2 years for the "longer" cases.

Good luck.

I am not a lawyer. I am familiar with the immigration process, but any questions I answer are not advice or represented as being true for your situation in any form or manner. I am not liable if you read what I have written and act upon it. Do your own research, ask an attorney for assistance, and make up your own mind. Nevertheless, I may attempt to answer questions from time to time to give you an idea of what to search for in finding out your answer.
