Hello Everyone,

I am new here so hope I'm posting correctly.

I have filed the I-130 and I-129F under the K3/K4 process for my husband in Ghana to join me here in the U.S.

I keep getting different stories on the process, even from lawyers. What I want to know, is:

1. About how long will it take for my husband to get his interview packet and get an appointment at the consulate in Accra, Ghana? The paperwork from the NVC was sent to Ghana on May 19, 2008.

2. I received a request for $70 from USCIS in order to continue processing the I-130. Should I go ahead and send that in even though we are doing the K3/K4 process?

3. My husband received a letter asking him to fill out an "agent" form regarding the I-130. Should we fill that out and send it in as well, or wait til he gets here to do anything else with the I-130 process after he gets here?

4. If anyone can give us hints on ways to make the whole process go smoother and quicker, please do.

Thanks,

purepeace

Hello Everyone,

I am new here so hope I'm posting correctly.

I have filed the I-130 and I-129F under the K3/K4 process for my husband in Ghana to join me here in the U.S.

I keep getting different stories on the process, even from lawyers. What I want to know, is:

1. About how long will it take for my husband to get his interview packet and get an appointment at the consulate in Accra, Ghana? The paperwork from the NVC was sent to Ghana on May 19, 2008. Ghana is running somewhere between 2-5 months. Take a look in the Sub-Saharan Africa forum for the thread titled "Keeping Track" or the last link in my signature. It will give you a good idea how long people have been waiting recently.

2. I received a request for $70 from USCIS in order to continue processing the I-130. Should I go ahead and send that in even though we are doing the K3/K4 process? If you want to continue with the K3/K4 process then you can ignore the requests from NVC fro bill payments etc. The bill payments are for the IR1/CR1 process.

3. My husband received a letter asking him to fill out an "agent" form regarding the I-130. Should we fill that out and send it in as well, or wait til he gets here to do anything else with the I-130 process after he gets here? Only if you want to do the IR1/CR1 process. If you know that your K3 has been sent to Accra and want to pursue that, then do not have him fill it out.

4. If anyone can give us hints on ways to make the whole process go smoother and quicker, please do.

The process is what it is. The only way to keep yourself sane through all this is to be patient.

Thanks,

purepeace

If your husband sent in any money for the IR1/CR1 and you decide not to pursue that then you just lose the money.
