Christopher Ward, who on May 3 was named chief executive of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey with a $286,702 annual salary, has a side job that pays him an additional $100,000 a year, according to a report in the New York Daily News.

The report said three weeks before New York Gov. David A. Paterson named him as the Port Authority's new executive director, Ward was appointed to the board of an obscure nonprofit organization that manages the state power grid. The New York Independent System Operator pays its board members a $35,000 annual retainer -- plus extras: $2,000 to attend monthly meetings, $1,500 a day for committee meetings and $750 for every phone conference.

After The Daily News asked how Ward could balance two busy jobs, a Ward spokesman told the newspaper he "is reviewing whether he should stay on the [group's] board."
