If you have been paying into CPP, contact them and give them your change of address, also any public and private pension plan providers, ie. OMERS, etc. You can leave a Canadian bank account open so you can still get your Income Tax, etc handled through there. Your bank will need your new address and will forward your statements for that account. You can manage the account online. One thing you can also consider doing - contact your MP's Constituency Office and your MPP's Constituency Office and ask them to notify all appropriate federal and Provincial agencies of your new address. You may need to fill out an authorization to release personal information form but one visit should take care of that. Your MP can also file your 'cease and desist' (VBG) request for CTB and GST credits. I used to do this all the time for people when I worked for the MP. You should also contact any insurance provider as policies can't be carried outside of the country and you may have a refund coming to you.

One thing I did is prepared a 'form' letter advising the recipient of my new address, and its effective date. I also included a space for an account number and sent one to each of my utilities and service providers advising them when to end services for my Canadian address and where to send final invoices or refunds. It actually proved useful when my cable provider tried to tell me that I hadn't notified them to turn off services and wanted payment for 3 months of cable bills - yet they had sent the bill to my US address! I was able to fax back to them the statement advising them of the last service date that contained the change of address. They sent me a credit instead!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I've already notified my electric provider, my internet provider to stop bills as of June 30. I'm calling Revenue Canada in regards to my CTB and give them my new address. OMERS have been notified of the changes as of today.

I hadn't thought of notifying MTO for any thing. They'll get my plates back as soon as I get my IL plates.

I need to notify MOH. I'll send them a letter tomorrow requesting they cancel my health card :(

Grrrrr. That happened with my hydro bill. I had automatic electronic payments and they kept taking the money out of my account for months.... even though I had written verification that they had received my cancellation request and I had given them the name and contact information of the new owner of my house. I even ended up having a big fight on the phone with a customer "service" person who insisted I was full of #######! Unbelievable. Luckily, I had saved the confirmation letter which they had generated a full 2.5 months prior to the actual switchover. Since they hadn't gone out to take a reading on the day of the house closing, they had to do an estimate of the costs based on my consumption and the new owner's consumption. Oh. And that same "service" person insisted that my notification was invalid because they hadn't heard from my lawyer. Gawd, there were so many things that tried my patience during this process. It's a wonder I didn't go postal. :girlwerewolf2xn:
