Yeah, I'm kind of wondering about my sanity too.

Put yourself in my position - imagine you were at a point where there's an option you'll never be able to go back home... Trying to figure out my best options here. It may sound like I'm joking but it's just my way of dealing with the disaster...

wish me luck.

It'll just be a toss up on what border guard you get. Some inquire more and others don't. People have been in trouble for being out 6 months others have gotten in without a problem for being gone 11. The general INS thing on leaving the US while with a Green Card is anything under 6 months is fine 6-12 months you have to prove to them you intended and have maintained US residency (payments for home etc). Anything over 12 months is very hard to convince.

Now a lot of times people will get let in for being away say 11 months, just don't expect to be applying for US citizenship anytime as you will definatly be found to have broken continous residency and you will have re-set your clock. If you don't plan on it, then yes the worst they will do is just deny you entry and state you abandoned your Green Card.

Most likely this won't happen, but you never know. And yes as mentioned never lie to the officers or you will be found out, then you definatly will be losing your green card and probably barred from the US for some time.

Not trying to put scare tactics on you, but this debate comes up all the time on another citizenship board with people thinking they can leave the US, work in another country and then come back like nothing has happend. Many come back to a very different reality then what they thought...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...
