So we asked for the temporary work stamp at the POE (which was the Peace Bridge in Buffalo). The officer said he would give it to us but we both felt that he didn't necessarily understand what we were asking for. So we let him finish processing the visa, then took a look at Scott's passport and I-94. We didn't see anything about work, so we asked the officer again, "Does this mean he can work right away?" and he said "Yes."

The I-94 has a Departure Number, some numbers and dates, the border stamp that you usually see in your passport, and some other rather normal looking info. Nothing was filled in on the back of the card. It doesn't say anything about employment and we weren't given anything else. The K visa inside Scott's passport was stamped with the usual customs dated stamp. So.... I'm confused. Did we get the temp EAD? Did we not, and the border guard just told us he could work, but didn't really give it to us?

Thanks guys.

I can't answer your question but I know that Julez's husband got the temp EAD in his passport so she might be able to email you a scan of what it looks like. Might be worth asking her.

It's a red stamp, usually near or on the back of the I-94, sounds like he lied big time.

I just love the non-standardization that the borders are doing.

1) JFK, here is your I-94 with your stamp that says "employment authorized."

2) Buffalo, sure we can give you work authorization. Here is your I-94. No stamp. No documentation.

3) Blaine, no you're not allowed to work at all. You'll have to wait until your post marriage EAD.

At least you are allowed to collect Canada EI without the stamp. They just want the I-94.

They really need to be more consistent everywhere; maybe it's time for a new training course

Given everything I know, I honestly wonder how the astronauts trust people to blast them off the planet and bring them back again safely. It really makes you think. I go through the same thought process when I'm flying. I have to keep reminding myself to stop.

Ok...I'm confused. I thought you had to have the EAD to work. Are you saying all you need is a ssn # and the I94 to work legally?

I've really missed something.

Nope, you need an EAD to work. I don't know where T.O_2_FL got their info from but it's wrong.
